Does anyone know how safe Poorboy's Bird Sh#t Remover is on clear coat and paint? After removing the bird shit with this product, do you have to coat the area with something to protect the paint?

There's a lot of bird shit in SF. :-/

The key with bird crap is to get it off quickly, before it etches the paint. If it hasnt baked in, you can any sort of apc or quick detail product to get it off.

I just get a paper towel which is moist. Some warm water in a cup which I pour on top of that $#1+, then let it soak. Once that $#1+ is easy to manipulate... I gently remove it with the moist paper towel.

I do that over and over again until it's gone. I never had any issue with it etching and I don't leave that $#1+ on my car for more than a day (The second I notice it... I deal with it).

If you are having problems after the initial clean up, you might want to try to clay bar that part or if that doesn't work... try to use some rubbing compound on it next? you should also consider waxing your car and leaving a good layer of wax always on the car.

This is a big problem for me because there's a tree on top of my driveway and I can't go for more than one day before I find like 4 bird poop spots on my car. I just got into my car before and there's one conveniently placed right above the driver side door handle. I did a bit of googling and I saw someone on this forum say to take an old bottle, clean it out and make a small hole on top of the cap and then fill it up with water and spray it onto the poop like a pressure washer. It worked pretty well but it took a couple of trips.

You need to try and "scoop" it off rather than "rub." There are often pebbles and little granular things in there that can scratch. It doesn't matter what you use, even if it's just water, what matters is that you do it ASAP.

Car care product for bird s*&# lmao, Cracks me up. Paper towel/water or wash car. If it leaves behind "mark" in paint Light buffing compound will take it out and then wax the area.

Good point on trying to scoop it out rather than rubbing it out.

I guess soap and water is good enough if you catch it right away (that's what I have done in the past), but if it has already dried up than it gets harder to get it off and that's why poorboy's product might help dissolve the dried #### a little bit better.

Tell me about it.... I live in SF as well. The only thing good going for us is the weather. If we have "Real" summer like everyone else then we will be in some serious trouble with etching.

A friend of mine who lives in San Jose had the pleasure of having bird bomb permanently etched to his roof. This happened in less than an hour in the summer heat (100+ degrees weather) but then he never waxed his car.

The lesson is......You should be fine just as long you keep up with your LSP (Wax/sealant/Coating) and remove it as soon as you can.

haha yeah the weather helps and I'm in the sunny part of the city. I go to California Detailing for my clay/wax about every 6 months and simple exterior wash with wax once in between. How often is your car waxed to protect against the bird sh#t?

I am not a wax guy. I am more of a sealant and coating guy. Since my car is garage every night, my sealant should last up to 8 months but it never stays on long. I like to play with products way too much.

Lately, I been doing quite a bit more of coatings on cars and I am considering doing the same to my DD. I am planning to do Gtechnig C1 and top it with Gtechnig Exo. Durability of these products measure in years. The extra thickness and hardness the coatings provide should serve me well against bird bomb since I live next to Golden Gate Park.

A wax in a hot climate doesn't last, try a paint sealant instead. 2 coats of Blackfire paint sealant on a PROPERLY prepped surface will give you 6-8 months protection in your climate (must wait 8 hrs in between coats for best results). If you want better protection, consider a surface coating like GTechniq C1/EXOv2, Opti Coat 2.0 or CQuartz.

Why dont you guys cover paint in Coatings like CARPRO CQAURTZ or Optimum.... you dont need to worry about these things after?
My car is has 2 coats of CQUARTZ applied 6 months ago after that i dont waste my time washing, polishing etc,i just wash it and use CARPRO Reload after wash while drying the car.
I keep a spray bottle of Optimum no rinse mixed with water in my car and when i see bird poop on the paint,i just spray ONR and scoop it with MF Towel.

Quick Detailers do an amazing job on bird crap...couple sprays and the crap should very easily wipe off with a microfiber cloth.

I looked that video up and that is one long ass video just for bird droppings and love bugs.

Here's how I do it.

Always carry a couple towels and a quick detailer and a bottle of water in your trunk. If the bird poop has dried and harden then it will be very difficult to take it off without damaging the paint. First I get a towel and pour a lot of water on the towel and let it soften up for 5-10 mins. Then I use the method in the link above to get it off. It might take a few tries a 2-3 towels if you have a lot on your car.
