I just got a call from Rob@UUC We talked about the shifter I just sent him, he should be modifying it and sending it right back for test fitment next week. Then he said so nonchalantly "I've got some good news....I got an xi front sway bar sample for you to try." So, next Tuesday I should have a UUC Evo3 SSK for the 335xi as well as a UUC SwayBarbarian front sway on my front doorstep. I'll install the sway bar immediately and get back to UUC with full install pics and the like. If all goes well, they'll start production.
SO! The Front Sway Bar is in final beta testing and should be out soon!!!

Please let us know how the install goes. Kick the skatta out the car and let us know how it tracks. I'm curious if it it helps flatten out the front end understeer feeling.

I'll be sure to post an update or maybe some pics (pending approval) as soon as I get it installed next week. The next autocross I'm at is on the 10th and the next track day I have is the 23rd. I'll flog the car on the street but I've learned that flogging pales in comparison to a proper track outing. Don't worry, you'll be in the loop

Not to my own thread but Humtek started a good movement for Riss Racing Downpipes and they're in need of a test car. Is ANYONE in California??? I know a lot of xi's are subscribed to this thread so I hope someone can step up to the plate.

The new bar fit perfectly, haven't driven it yet but will update later today.
The silver bracket I circled in red is the little bastard that kept me from just dropping the sway bar. There's a 10mm nut on the top of the bracket you need to get out with a spanner wrench (TAKES FOREVER) and then you can flip the bar over and pull it down after also removing the brackets for the other black bar down there.

Ugh I keep forgetting to get the tech specs from Rob and he's out for the rest of the weekend. Someone PM me or something on Monday and I'll find out.
So...Oh...My...God....this bar is fantastic. When I got the rear bar in, the stock pile of donkey crap Toyota like thing that had a 335xi on the back of it became a Bimmer. Not necessarily an E36 M3 like Bimmer, but a Bimmer nonetheless. When going around turns (with nannies off) you could glide the car into an oversteer situation with the tactile response of the front of the car twisting. So, with the remaining body roll, you could tell how to "let" the back out gently. With the front bar we've moved up to M Coupe type rigidity. There's that circle in front of my school I use to give me quick feedback on changes to my car. Well usually I go around the first S and then sort of throttle steer around the sweeping left into a straight. Well this time I was trying to kick the rear end out and was going faster and faster and faster and the damn car wouldn't turn over until finally I felt the tires quickly start losing grip and I corrected. That is to say, there's no longer the tactile feedback of the car twisting because....it DOESN'T AT ALL! Literally it was as if I was going in a straight line. Oh...and this is on my garbage stock Continentals with my garbage stock wheels....I haven't even tried the car with my K1/RE01R combo yet. Speaking of straight lines, with just the rear bar installed there is a strange feeling changing lanes at high speeds. Not bad, not good...just strange. It's kind of as if you were asking the car nicely to move over a few feet and it was being a baby about it. With the front bar installed the car remains planted at all times and leads to much more confidence at high speeds. Changing lanes feels natural. The car obeys your every command willingly. Also, the bar really didn't contribute a noticeable level of understeer. I mean, I suppose that it changes the steady state oversteer to limit traction imbalance oversteer. However, in steady state the car is tremendously balanced. I would HIGHLY recommend this to any XI owner that gives a damn about corners. I'll do a full writeup later on this month, I have an Autocross 8/10 and HPDEs 8/23, 8/24, 8/27, 8/28.... These should start production "soon." I'll get more details on Monday.

@ Dave: Glad you're liking it!
@ all: Bars are in production now, to be available in just a couple of weeks. Pricing on the Xi-exclusive bars should be on our website in a day or so, I'll post the link ASAP. |
