How much more uncomfortable can it get...
with the stock Xi suspension and RFT tires. Was just driving home for an hour and every little thing on road I felt in my gut. I could hear my lunch floating around as well. Wow! Add some instability to that. Feels like the car wants to grow wings and fly away sometimes as well. BMW should be ashamed for ruining a nice car like that. Rant over...

Get rid of the RFTs. Although idk if I need an alignment or if my suspension is terrible. Been feeling a lot of instability.

I got these continental winter RFTs with the car brand new when I bought it. Guess I am stuck with them for now. I will try to sell them before next winter and get some blizzaks. But either way, I can't wait to put the KWs on. Soon...

What did you have for lunch?!?!
Yeah, the stock suspension isn't very good, especially when you have run-flats on.

I'm still running my OEM RFTs on my KWV1s. I was pleasantly surprised by the ride. Some say it would be harsher than stock. I beg to differ.

it's definitely the RFTs, not the suspension.
ive been through a few setups. i find the KW V1s to be extremely harsh in terms of ride comfort, but the stock suspension + RFTs were worse. get regular tires and get new bump stops to allow for more travel with OEM suspension (gets ride of crashing effect).

Firm and harsh are two very different things. I have KWs coming, already have brand new 19" CSL style wheels that will wrapped in Michelin PSS. I know 19s are not optimal but I am going to try it anyway since I got them already.
I had a nice setup before on my previous car and it was firm however way better than original stock suspension which was "soft" but at the same time quite harsh. On stock suspension when you hit a larger dip the car just seems to float, roll and becomes unstable especially at speed and all the small imperfections were going through the seat and I felt it every time. Bimmer although better stock for the exception of RFTs however still needs much improvement. I am expecting similar results from this upgrade. Edit: I was expecting these to arrive in a week or two but fedex guy showed up today... Last edited by belcom; 03-02-2015 at 03:03 PM.. |

i have the stock 17's with RFTs and they were/are just ok.. it doesn't really bother me too much.. id rather have my car a little harsh/firm for better handling for sure.. i have 19" 313's with non RFTs that i will be using once the weather gets nice so we'll see how much it improves or not.

I got my 19s put on with Michelin PSS 235 front and 265 rear. Already quite an improvement. My wheels are pretty light as well. About 20lbs front and 22lbs rear. KWs are still in the box... just waiting for the damn dealer to finish some warranty work first (takes forever!).
19s are not as bad as I thought they would be. Quite comfy actually. Added quite a bit of stability to the ride too. Cornering is way better over stock 17 RFTs. Car stays flatter. |

You need to be getting rid of those & pick up a set of good tires - if you also want wheels & your area has really crappy roads, I would not suggest going any bigger than 18" wheels so as to not risk bending them... 18" wheels with regular tires still ride way better than RFT's on 17" wheels

haha I feel your pain. I have the OEM bridgestone RFT with stock suspension here in Boston. Sometimes i think my engine is going to just fall out the bottom....

Ditch the RFT's, I swapped out the OEM Bridgestone EL42'S after three months and put on the Michelin A/S 3's; the difference was night and day. Rather than every minute road imperfection feeling like impending doom, they are far more subdued. You'll notice an appreciable difference in both ride quality and handling, I am sure a comparable Continental like the DWS or even the DW would yield a similar outcome.
