BMW E90 318 going cheap, what is the cacth
Hi,
My friend who is after 320i or 318i looked at e-bay and found this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISA...:X:RTQ:GB:1123 As the log book is not there, what is the catch here? How likely is it for the previous owner to deny the transfer of VO5. Also the seller said that it is HPI clear but that does not clear it out. My friend offer him to pay deposit and get it transfered and as soon as it get transfered he would pay the balance. This is the reply he got. Hi mate, The car is cheap because of the logbook not being here. You can carry out whichever hpi check you want before you bid and i will provide an invoice with the car. I cannot let you not pay me and apply for the logbook on your name as you will legally become the owner this way. If you dont believe it is legitimate dont bid as it just wastes time for me and i already have a bidder and interest in this vehicle. Thanks Sami What are your thought? Please share all the good and worst consequences of buying it. I am not being funny and I advised my friend to stay clear. But just wanted to know what sort of scam can it be? Cheers. Why hasn't the seller applied for a replacement V5C? (I think V62 form)...only £25 If I recall correctly. They could phone the dvla to do this if the registered keeper and you could phone to check the application has been made. Is he the registered keeper?
Seems like a small cost for selling a car...I'd steer clear if I were you. |

Makes no odds whos name is on the log book before or after its sold as the v5 is not proof of ownership.
Its not cheap as its got over a day to go so bidding may go up...if it were me I would do the hpi checks, make sure you view before bidding and examine the history, maybe check for invoices and make a note of the previous owner and try and contact them prior to the end of the auction. If your mate buys it, pick it up from sellers address, get invoice and ask to see his ID, driving licence etc and make a note of the driver number and do the deal. Noone will take a deposit and hand over the keys while the V5 gets reissued and wait 5 weeks for the balance. If he is in doubt walk away as there are plently of E90's out there. Edit, if it has no service history and services cannot be checked at the dealers then dont bother, its only a ES with no climate...and werent the 2000cc petrols rubbish anyway? As above, it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask who the previous owner was and their contact details to confirm the previous sale. But unless I was dealing with a respectable garage I would want the registered keeper to be the owner and the one making the sale.

I would take a higher mileage E90 with full BMW history with 1 owner over a "low mileage" E90 with no history and incomplete documents any day.....plus I would be just waiting for the car to be gone one morning after a debt recovery company repossesses it as its got a logbook loan secured on it.
Check the autotrader, theres at least 4 on there with 76-89,000, cheapest is £5495 to £6500 with better options. I would think that the bidding will be going up anyway so it wont be sold that cheap.....there IS no such thing as a cheap car these days, its cheap for a reason. |

Re the V5, applying for and holding a V5 does not make you the owner, just the "Registered Keeper" having read all the available facts, I would not touch it with a very long barge pole. RUN AWAY

^^ RUN AWAY!!! And the 18i is one of the worst petrol engines I have ever experienced. Its pathetic, slow and drinks fuel. That was in a much lighter 1 Series too, so imagine it in a 3 Series!! NOOO!!
