Shatx, did the document help resolve your problem? Did you check to see if it was a bad connection?

Car worked fine today driving to and from the office. Been home fit about an hour when I decided to go grab dig food fir the pups. Guess what....it happened again. No interior power at all, but my factory alarm siren was going off after I manually unlocked the door

Get it fixed. You don't wanna be in a bad neighborhood or somewhere unpleasant running into a gas station or toilet when it fails to start...

I know - I just wish I knew for sure if it the cable and fuse box bmertech mentioned or if could have something to do with the alarm coding recently done before I get stuck with big bill at BMW

What alarm coding did you have done? You never mentioned this before. I would be it has something to do with that... your car/alarm isn't recognizing the keyfob sometimes.

I didnt know anything about the alarm coding either. Im not sure I understand what you mean about alarm coding. Was it a dealer installed/OEM alarm and you just had it retrofitted into car?

It's an oem alarm I installed 2 weeks ago and had a forum member code the car for it. It has worked fine with no issues for a week and a half. Then this past weekend the car started acting like it was in permanent sleep mode or no interior power at all. So before I go to BMW and get the battery cable and fuse box replaced I want to make sure it isn't something to do with the oem alarm coding.

doing some searching and reading this morning i came across some info on the battery having a dead cell even if had 12.8 volts at rest affecting the IBS and sleep modes to the modules. Also found some info around at rest amperage triggering the the protection sleep mode. i dont having anything aftermarket installed in the car so i dont think that is the issue but i am going to check anyways. heading to pick a factory battery from my parts guy in the better half's car. i don think this will fix the issue but i'd rather narrow down all low cost options before taking it to BMW - since i am out of warranty. I have an after market warranty but not sure how much i trust them covering this.

Can't you open it from the inside?

btw the smart money is betting this is an install/coding issue. Whenever you change something, and something else starts malfunctioning... it's almost always due to what you changed.

no i cant - one feature of the factory alarm is that if it is armed and the windows are down you cannot reach in and open from the inside.

quick update -

so in trouble shooting i made a decision to take a portable battery jumper box and connect it directly to the battery in the trunk since i was getting 12v under the hood. (i know it was risky but thought what the heck) by doing this i was able to wake the car up and unlock the doors and start the car. i have a friend bringing me a new battery and then re-coding all models in the car for the alarm tonight.

please GOD let this be the issue if not than i am heading straight to BMW of Austin and having them replace the modules and cable as Bmertek explained.

wish me luck!

After 2 days the car decided to start acting normal this afternoon- lol.

Checking all coding and then heading straight to the dealership and letting them trace the "gremlin"

Sorry to hear man.

make sure and refer to service bulletin - SI B61 08 11 - it is not a common problem as of yet so many dealerships are not aware to diagnose the issue correctly the first time. One guy on the forums had a $3K repair bill for it. I ordered the parts and fixed mine myself as it was pretty easy.

Good Luck!
