I agree that really high octane mixtures may actually hurt performance because I did experience an issue like he suggested where higher octane made my car alot slower. as for octane booster... for my needs, which was to find the reason why my car would pull a bunch of timing on Aggressive maps even though I'm supposedly using 93 octane, octane booster did that fine for me with no performance issues. What is the whole point of running higher octane on a 93 octane map... to make sure your car runs happy (no timing pulls) while running it hard right? Well I feel like octane booster does that just fine imo... my question is... is it bad to run octane boosters often? if so, why? is it because some has lead content like Lulz M3's article suggested or is it because another reason? |

Fair.... I've read a few articles that say the same thing as Lulz's article that basically octane booster aren't worth the money. It makes sense to run as a fuel injector replacement to correct timing pulls, but the articles I've seen have suggested that 1 octane booster ever XXX miles isn't bad, but it wouldn't be beneficial to run it at every fill up. I wouldn't say 1 every 3 months just b/c every1's monthly mileage is different.

Anyone speaking intelligently about octane boosters should know what xylene and toluene are. They are the #1 octane boosting chemical far and away. All the other crap in the boosters on the market is filler or lubrication. It's also what drives the octane numbers in the race gas you were suggesting earlier. just installed - HOLY SH!!!!!!@#
Damn this thing didn't just wake up, it on cocaine!!
I couldn't fully test it due to heavy rain but I am very pleased with the 10 minutes of scary power!! Installed and updated firmware and also flashed to newest beta maps (more aggressive I think but I can't fully say yet, very smooth though except when shifting - very fast and stiff. I am looking at the AP manager and can't seem to find my stock ECU data? Can anyone help with this, how do I know if it's been backed up or not (checked the flag in settings but under ECU data, I don't see anything). |

http://www.fueltechexperts.com/2008/...which-is-best/ The toluene scored substantially higher, you'll note. Also, NOS uses MMT and has been reported to foul plugs after one use. Toluene is already mixed into typical pump gas. Looks like I'm at least knowing more than you, dbag. Last edited by AWD Addict; 05-29-2012 at 11:26 PM.. |

MMT has ben banned from use in various places but has been legal in the US and Canada for a while. 15 years or so. Its also a pump gas additive i think in some places.
Most of these chemicals are pretty nasty stuff |

FWIW, toluene has been in use as a home brew race gas for A LONG time.
There are a bunch of charts floating around the interwebs showing mixing formulas and what stoich AFRs would be. I was a chem freak in high school and did a couple research papers on home brew race gas. Toluene is NOT a chemical to mess with. IIRC it does really fucked up things with your brain cells and is closely linked to cancer. I'll just wait for e85. |

I'm not sure. I've read a number of reviews of MMT based boosters that leave an orange buildup on plugs, and prematurly foul them.
