Lemon ?
Hey Guys,
I need to vent. I have had my 2008 335i for almost a year. Since I have bought the car, I have had the following things go wrong. Plugs, coils, injectors, DMTL pump, water pump, thermostat, battery, adaptive headlight (drivers side) both wastegates rattle on acceleration, oil filter housing and now broken front passanger spring. What else can go wrong ?? For a high end car it sucks. I love the power and the handling but if it is in the shop more than I am driving it, it is not worth it. Going to trade it in this week maybe for a LADA. Might have better luck with that LMAO. |

Sorry to hear man. Most of those are fairly common with these cars - looks like the previous owner of your car managed to escape in the nick of time. Were your wastegates covered under the extended turbocharger warranty? (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=729833)

I have been to the BMW dealer about the turbo warranty but it does not apply to Canadian cars only U.S. The Car only has 64000 miles on it. I really don't know what to do. This was my dream car now it is turning into a nightmare.

Wow bro that really sucks, sorry to hear you've had a bad experience so far I think its swing and miss with these cars fortunately for me "not trying to boast' but I got lucky with my 07 haven't had a single issue 'nock on wood' Good luck hope you find yourself something nicer.

Are the Canadian 335s built in a different place than the US 335s? I can't see how BMW can tell you to go pound sand but will pay for it on the US models. Time to make a complaint - going to the media is an option you shouldn't forget about.

That is an interesting fact, but I don't see the connection with turbocharger warranties?

The worst you are looking at now is a leak at the oil pan or the rear main seal, or a leak at the mechatronic on the gearbox. You have already changed all the other common failure items (and even some uncommon things, springs??? ). If you get another one, there are good chances you'll have to do at least some of these items again (like water pump, turbos, high pressure pump, oil leaks are endemic). |

I wouldn't touch a BMW turbo car without CPO.
My car: On 5th HPFP (97K miles) Water pump (72K miles) Injectors (they replaced a couple, but last year full set of newest design) Battery (my money) Suspension stuff (my money) All O2 sensors Crank position sensor Plugs Other misc stuff AND NOW FOR THE GRAND FINALE!!!!! A head rebuild with new cam ledges!!! ($4200 - NOT MY MONEY!!) My out fo pocket over the last two years; ~$1200 BMW CPO warranty and recall fixes ~$16,000 2007,2008 335i cars can be scary to own.

That sucks man. I really hope it turns around for you. You could def try to plead your case to BMW NA...
One word of advice, as someone who has worked in a service industry on the other side...Don't use the word "Lemon" when you're interfacing with BMWNA (or any other company for that matter), just state calmly and firmly the issues you've had. Be polite and be prepared to know exactly what you want to ask for out of the situation.

Be honest, you were driving the shit out of that car. Nothing else makes sense. I bought my car used from a non bmw dealer but got extended warranty from my credit union because yes it is just silly to own such a car without some kind of protection. However, even with warranty I probably would have gotten rid of your car if it was mine already. Sounds very unreliable. Ok you got warranty but still the last thing I want happening is breaking down half way thru a rd trip to florida or toronto. |

some of those items are maintenance items .. looks like you have a 2008... not sure how many miles
and Some of those items are "common" problems... Not that it makes it any better. But, these are finicky cars, and are HIGH maintenance (compared to say a Honda or Toyota where you can drive it to 100k without needing anything) As someone else will enviably say you "gotta pay to play"... maintenance on these cars are different than others. Sorry for your tough luck and hope you get the problems fixed and can enjoy your car. Since you have done these maintenance items, hopefully you can keep your car problem free for the next few years.

So OP, as others have said, the following are likely in your future: - valve cover gasket - oil pan gasket - mechatronic sleeve (transmission) - HPFP (probably already done by previous owner under warranty)

It's like the car needs a refresh every 60-75k... and then will be good for awhile... and then a handful of problems again.
