Knocking Suspension Noise HELP (VID UPLOADED)
Hey guys,
My car has developed a weird knocking noise recently and I have recorded it and put the link below. I fell into a pot hole at woodbine and steeles 2 weeks ago which popped my tire and replaced 2 tires together. 1 week after replacing the tires, my car has developed this noise and I first thought it was snow stuck in the wheel well, so I have cleared it out but it still knocks. I looked at all 4 wheels and don't seem to find anything obstructing it as the knock increases as speed increases and the noise seems to be coming from driver side wheel which is the one that popped over the pot hole. The thing that bugs me is the noise does not always appear and sometimes after driving a bit it just goes away. I have taken it to my mechanic who has test drove it on a bumpy road and it didn't knock when he drove it and only heard like isolated knocks and he says its the sway bar end links that are shot but he did not put it on the hoist to check anything. WHile driving home today, I noticed that if I tap the brake lightly, the noise would go away but as soon as I lift the brake it comes back. Please help me out guys and thank you |

Should lift the car and check for anything loose. It doesn't sound like a control arm/tie rod/sway bar link noise to me, unless it is reeeeeally worn out (knocking is too frequent and not as "deep"). And you would have felt it when driving.
Probably something just came loose from the impact, i.e. few screws on the belly pan. But that doesn't explain why it goes away when braking... Try also checking brakes and the area (pads, rotors, calipers, heat shield).

I tried using a breaker bar to tighten them and it kinda helped a bit. I will try using a torque wrench at 80 ft lb tomorrow.
Should i jack the car up and loosen the wheels first and then tighten and then drop it and torque it or just tighten them while sitting on the floor I got my rear wheels rotated to the front after hitting the pot hole and maybe the shop didn't torque it tight and it got loose. |

Best thing to do is lift the car in stands and remove the underbody panel in the front. I hope that something that loud would be easy to see if you had a look under the car.

When you use a socket extension and put it in over, you can turn it by your hand without the wrench? I have taken the wheel off and put it back onto the hub and tightened everything to 85 ft lb and will test drive it today and also, the bolts all seemed they were tightly on when i was using a breaker bar to remove the nuts |

I just went to the shop and they checked the lug nuts and confirmed they are tight, air box looseness has been tightened back and went for a test drive, the car was dead silent, however when we were returning to the shop the noise came on and I told my mechanic that if you hit the brakes even very gently, the noise would be muted.
while the car was on the hoist, he checked the joints and everything looks fine but he said things like end links are hard to tell because we cannot replicate the cars weight on the joints and they also hammered the inner side of the wheel and heard a metallic sound like something is loose and while they hammered the passenger side, the car was mute and he suspects that it is the steering rack. While driving back from the shop, I heard the noise knocking again and its so annoying What are your thoughts on this guys |

Take it to RMp motors he will find it and fix it.
I went to tire shop, the noise came and I pulled over, i can move the wheel. I went back and they tighten. |
