You will like like it... Just make sure to cover and tape lots of areas to stop overspray, not that it's a big deal, it rubs off anyways. It is just simpler to cover stuff at the start. Just go light on it so you don't have drips and you will be all good!

This really is a great stuff and the funny thing is I just finished doing this to the grill and I was thinking about doing the window trim as well. Same concept as yours.

I used this on my Mini to cover up some chrome as well and the best thing about this is that if you want to go back to chrome you just peel it off and voila!

After going to over 4 home depot's looking for the Plasti Dip Spray; I finally got 2 cans. After couple hrs the window trim turned out great thanks to this write up! Really hoping that it will hold up in a car wash and not immediately peel off.

I must admit I am an avid DIY'er and have great respect for other DIY'ers, but when I first saw this post and the initial pics with the over spray on that paint I thought how could you do that to a Bimmer! When I saw your finished product I thought wow. Great job, great post. Very impressive.

well i completed this project sunday....turned out awesome!! the way the plastidip just peels off the factory paint....leaving a clean line.....made this really easy! thanks again Andy for the write-up/inspiration! i highly recommend this to anyone looking to black out their trim....it looks 10x better than the aluminum.

Thanks for the comments guys! I redid mine last evening to correct the drips I created while doing this writeup. This time around it's absolutely perfect.

for those that are curious about how well this stuff holds up: Today I took my car to one of those carwashes where you put in quarters to enable the washer for a few minutes. Most of these have a high pressure wash setting and also a low pressure "soak" or "rinse" setting. I soaked the car using the low pressure wash, then washed it by hand with a sponge and rinsed with the low pressure setting again. The plastidip remained completely intact throughout.

Just to be clear about Plastidip, I used this stuff to paint my chrome grills because paying for aftermarket ones is an unnecessary expense.

I've BLASTED my grills with a pressure washer at the local car wash MANY times and it hasn't come off at all.

Trust me when I say it, you aren't going to have an issue with it holding up to pressure washers unless you left an area for water to penetrate underneath the coating (which isn't likely if you do it right).

It takes physical hand pressure and a thin dividing object to remove this stuff but for whatever reason, it holds up great to forceful wash pressure.

That's funny, i used the pressure washer to remove the plastidip from my wheels. Holding the pressure washer a foot or two away didn't cause it to peel, but once I held it up to the paint it came right off. ALOT easier than peeling it by hand.

i just taped along the bottom of the window trim...leaving about a half inch of the paint exposed so that it's easy to peel up the excess. i taped underneath the mirror as close to the edge as i could. when spraying make sure you get underneath the mirror, but just don't overdo it since its a tiny area. i contemplated pulling off the entire mirror....but it's really not necessary.

I just had to open the doors and tape/cover them up entirely and then cover up the interior. Just tape normal at the bottom of the interior trim part like everywhere else. Pretty much just meant more stuff to cover with the doors open. No biggie.

I don't see the need for goo gone. Plastidip overspray just rubs off. If there is a lot of it just grab a clay bar.

Did mine today, along with the grilles. I ended up pulling off the top trim and spraying it off of the car. Did bottom trim the way described here. Worked well, and I'm hoping that it's going to be durable enough to avoid having to re-do it too soon.
