UPDATE: 1.3 beta 7G Installed & Tested

This is an update to my write up on the JB3 1.2

JB3 1.2 Write-up

I will write it in the same format as I did the 1.22 version but w/ updated information, for example: since I tested the 1.22, my ECU has been updated to the latest software so I'm no longer a pre-29.2 car =(

My Car
E90 335 on newest software, 31.1(?). I now have a Bastuck quad exhaust(axle back), & a RR cold air intake. I’m on 91 octane.

BMS 1.33 beta is a total of 15 maps (set up in the same format as 1.2)
7 performance maps. The stock map & 7 diagnostic maps should the need arise.

Map’s I have tested:
3 & 4. On this BETA version, there isn't a lagfix yet, it's still being developed.

Test:
There is no lagfix on this version & there still seems to be little to no lag what so ever down low. The power band & throttle response seems to have improved a great deal & become much more linear through redline every time. This will sound a bit contradictory if you read my last write up because I talked about how much I loved being kicked back in my seat when punching the car...That changed over time & my only issue w/ the JB became the lack of subtlety when driving it hard, you were jerked back in your seat every time w/ out fail & ppl knew you had a JB tune. When I wrote that, I was coming from the JB2 so I was happy to be kicked back in my seat at high RPM's I was pre 29.2 so I never had any lag problems down low, it was great to feel the car up top finally but it got old fast..W/ this latest version, the car feels much stronger across the board yet much more redefined. I'm really pleased w/ how it feels coupled w/ my new Riss Racing Intake.

My conclusion:
I'm sticking strong to nothing compares for the price! I still recommend the JB(any version) over anything else on the market. It is by far the best bang for your buck, it never ceases to amaze me the new & innovative ways to upgrade these tunes that Terry is coming up with everyday. It just keeps getting better & better & I can't wait to see what he comes out with next! I know there is talks of the boost gauge which controls map switching as well! I can't wait for this =)

Update: 3.13.09
I just installed my Riss Racing catless mid pipes...WOW. Not only does the car sound incredible(video clip coming soon) but the car is responding like I haven't felt it before. I'm still waiting on my DP's but just removing the cats in the mid-section has made a huge difference coupled w/ the JB3, RR intake & RR Air Scoops! I took a friend for a drive last night, he drives an E90 M3, & he couldn't believe how the car felt..I know ppl are posting in this thread that w/out data logging my review isn't really a review but I don't know that I necessarily believe that..at the end of the day, it's my car & my review is based on how I feel when I'm driving it. & so far, with every update I've gotten from Terry I've been thoroughly pleased! & the JB pieced together with these RR parts is amazing!

Thank you to Terry for the latest BETA version.

It's a nice review of how you like it but there really isn't any hard data at all, e.g. boost pressure, boost curve, timing, fueling, throttle closure, knock, etc.
you make a strong argument & i agree...let me see what i can do..i think a friend of mine could help me out with this. i'll update accordingly ASAP.

Have you tried EVERYTHING (tunes) there on the market? If not, your statement is "interesting".

i have driven the newest version of the PROcede which is what I'm comparing the JB too. if you'd done a little searching you'd see that in my 1st write up on the 1.2 that i linked in this thread, i made this comment:

"My conclusion:
I am truly happy with the JB3 1.2 & would recommend this to anybody looking for an upgrade from stock. This is not to say that the Procede isn’t a great upgrade as well, because it is, I’ve driven the newest mapped Procede & it feels just as gratifying but for me, in terms of bang for your buck, I don’t see any other way to go! It’s like spending $20 for a Kobe beef burger when you can go to Fat Burger & pay $5 for basically the same thing..It all comes out the same in the end"

Good review but I would also agree with forcefedbimmer that some BT scans of the tune in operation would help. I know not everyone has one but as you can tell, more folks here are turning into (or already were) discriminating consumers.

A question tho - between the no lagfix maps on 1.22 and the comparable ones you tested on 1.33 - what's your perception of how it's improved? The kick in on Map3 on 1.22 was about at 4000-4500RPM, is that not there anymore and just 'smoother' now?

I am gonna miss the "VTEC YO!"

^ it's not that there's no "v-tech kick" haha..you still have that kick in of energy that thrusts the car, but it's not the same as the 1.2. maybe i mis-spoke in my OP. the kick is there but it's initial, you don't have to wait until 4000-45000 like you said, it has power from stop but the "kick" is more subtle..it's just less abrasive & you get the feeling that car is working from stop...

did any of what i just said make sense?!!

I really noticed the relative lack of bottom end responsiveness with the JB3 1.3G beta compared to Procede Rev II.

But I was comparing map#6 to Stage 2.

1.3 is the most impressive update for the JB3 yet. And it's only getting better. Hopefully not too many more revisions before the JB3 becomes something you load through your OBDII port

ok, i need 1.3 ASAP..lol. i've been waiting and waiting for the low end power, and begging Terry to make JB3 1.3 capable of loading maps via laptops. hopefully it will all come true.
i'm sure map 6 will be even more of a beast when coupled with FMIC and DP

Map for map, that's a fair comparison. And yep, there is a fairly obvious reason why the JB3 will not be able to emulate the PROcede this time around.

Was this on 7G? I suspect the OP is running a different version than you're commenting on.
