How many winter tyre threads

4x4 plus winter tyres = more fun and almost no risk of stoving it.

Don't get much snow in Cornwall anyway.

But the point being, you'd be appreciating the bimmer a lot more between Nov and March with winter tyres on.

My Conti sport 3's are like greased-granite this time of year, best place for them is in the shed.

More so if you live in a very rural area (as from the Landy requirement, you must do) as greasy, near frozen, mud & cow shit covered back lanes are truly lethal in slick summers - even in summer - let alone winter!

Am I being thick? Which safety points?!

Even in the worst of the snow last year, we were out of action (with the BM) for a mere two weeks. It's warmer down 'ere. We grow palm trees and all sorts.

Forget snow for the moment, that's not the main issue, we're talking about cold weather tyres, not siberian spiked snow tyres.

What about the other 3.5 non-snowy winter months slipping and sliding all over the place on your shiny summer tyres? I have conti sport 3's like you and they're like oiled granite and lethal on country lanes in winter.

I was leaning towards the fact that, with the landy and all, you must live in a very rural area.

So you must be aware that country lanes when cold, wet and muddy (and nearly freezing) are just as slippy as slushy & icy 'city' roads.

DB - snow/ice is the only issue. Sure the car gets covered in muck for half the year but I just wash it a lot. Not once had muck been an issue traction-wise and I find no issues with the car in wet conditions (unless it's flooding!).

Honestly it was out of action for only two weeks in last years (very unusual for Cornwall) snow. This years coincided with buying the Landy so the novelty effect meant we used it all the time for a bit. Driven the BM a few times in the last month and loved it. We don't commute and do few business trips so we can use either car. Just not worth spending £500+ on Winter tyres when we have a Landy with them already fitted that's 1000121214515 times more capable in adverse conditions.

Same as I won't use the Landy to go razzing about in!

Saves adding mega miles to the BM too!
