Personally for comfort I would stay away from cheaper coilovers and go for Koni shocks with Eibach springs.

Tbh generally if your looking for comfort stay away from coilovers full stop. I know there are more road focussed ones out there but generally coilovers are for more track work than road. Just personal experience.

I have Ohlins R&T on my E93. They're pretty fantastic but I have the ride height pumped up to max height to stop the rear rubbing due to the excessive weight on the back of the E93, factor this in when you're choosing your new suspension!
The ride is tauter when driving hard and far better than m-sport when driving for comfort. I haven't experimented with the damper settings much yet but will be playing with that soon. Not a cheap kit but worth every penny. Here's a couple of pics (yes, I'll be dialing the front down soon to match the rear).

Not cheap Came in at around £1,500 shipped from the states all in, which is a pretty good price for the Ohlins.
I researched a lot and they seemed be hands down the best option. In hindsight I think I could have got near enough as good for a lot less with something like the KW kits.

I'm considering KW V3's to replace the Birds kit currently fitted. I'm a little torn to spend money on something that potentially won't be much different. But the more adjustability would be good.

if it were me I'd do blisteins...wouldn't look any further than that ro frliability and better handling for road purposes. But if I was a spirited driver and trackday guy then would go for the likes of koni / h&r or the holy grail ohlins

I also didn't want much of a drop but still looks nice. Just closes the gap a bit. Doesn't hit the bumps and still feels nice to drive. I've got non rft and 19s with eibach and still trying to decide between bilstein or koni shocks :-)

Perhaps with your rears you can get custom springs to raise the height so you don't have to adjust it to the max? I know you can get custom swifts to your desired length and rate. OP if you're not a spirited driver and just want better comfort, then even getting just bilstein B4 with Eibach springs will improve the damping/comfort. Koni's and eibachs even more so. |

B4 are OE replacements Bilstein dampers. They will be better than M Sport dampers. Should give you a good improvement.
Springs don't have the ability to raise/lower height after you install them. Only certain dampers do. Best thing you can do to estimate how much lower you'd be is find out the weight on the back axle, and using maths you can work out how much a spring of a certain length and spring rate will compress, and therefore how much lower you will go conpared to your stock spring. Formula only works for linear springs, progressive spring formula is out there but tricky to get all the figures needed! If you really want height adjustable after fitting it has to be coilovers. I don't know of any spring/damper combo which is height adjustable. If you want damping adjustable only (how firm or stiff the ride will be) then you could go for konis/eibach (damper and springs) or coilovers. The konis are known for a comfy ride, and handling will improve as well. If you want both then coilovers. |
