proTUNING Freaks Support/Questions Thread

Instead of having to monitor all possible threads/posts about PTF we felt that it would be appropriate to start an all-in-one thread where anyone, customer or not, can post their questions/concerns and we'll do our best to answer them as promptly and completely as possible. In case anyone doesn't feel like writing up an email drop a post in here and we'll have one of our tuners respond at their earliest. From this thread/post we may wish to jump over to email for map exchange, log review etc. If you've got logs you'd like us to review from your own maps, post them on datazap.me and we'll provide our input on those as well.

Lots of great technical info has been posted over the years on our blog at http://blog.protuningfreaks.com as well as on this and other forums, just a search away..

If you're looking to get a tune from us and are a member of BimmerPost PM us or email us with your BimmerPost username and we'll provide you with a proTUNE discount code to use on our website.

Cheers to everyone and happy 2015!

Regards,
PTF

i have a question.... i was tuned for ~e33....installed Steve AZ inline to run e50... car was fine (using same tune) then started misfiring in cyl 1 during some runs vs my buddy when shifting to 4th. I tried to log and couldn't get it to do it again. Decided to give it another shot a few days later no misfire for a couple weeks. Sunday night this evo rolls up to me we go and boom misfire!! then car ran like crap pulled up to the light rough idle shut it off turned it back on and was good. That same night added some 91 and hasn't misfired since any thoughts? i have a log i can post when i get home running e50 where it didn't misfire. Once weather gets nicer i will try the whole swap a coil thing see if it follows but just thought i would post and get any input. maybe because im not tuned for it yet was my thoughts but its a hassel for me to load the cobb race map then log plus if im misfiring on a custom map i figure going to an OTS wont help lol

Probably coil or plugs. Both are very easy fixes.

A little off topic but related, how many miles should coils have before you consider replacing them?

I would say coils are most likely the culprit. Almost positive. Try placing the misfiring coil into a different cylinder and see if the misfire follows.

Hello Alex, would you be able to help me out with one of my PFT tunes? It was originally done by Jake, not sure if that matters. Well recently I had to get a new DME, and the maps wont load since my ROM changed. Can you help me get it moved to the new ROM? Thank you!

They can last up to 65K, I personally would change them out at the 50K mark.

Would you still recommend OEM spark plugs if running FBO with e50 fuel?

What safety features does the DME have to restrict boost/timing/etc based on the engine temperature? Is it based on water or oil temp? Do tuners have the ability to modify these?

If you're running stock turbos, OEM plugs are fine.
