Gear pop

When switching gears 1-2 or 2-3 my gear stick would get stuck in the current gear for a split second (it's very quick). Usually under heavy throttle. It would feel like a rubber band is holding the gear stick in the current gear then: "pop" it would let me shift into 2nd or 3rd. It's hard to describe it other then a rubbery "pop" feeling on release. It releases with some force like a rubberband would.

I have a clutch stop but my pedal is all the way down. I have no trouble starting the car and clutch is past its engagement point.
My CDV is in.
I have no other transmission problems. No gear grinding. Gears popping out. No trouble shifting past the gate. No clutch slip.

It started happening about a month ago and it happens about once every time I drive. Can't really reproduce it on demand.

And ideas?
I checked. I have no rubberbands or mice in my transmission.

I'd like to know the answer to this one, myself.

transmission popping

Well, hopefully it is not clutch related,
it would only happen if you would not depress clutch fully.
I don't think that is the case since you mentioned that you can not duplicate it on demand...
Now there are cases of transmissions going bad in 328i's you may have the same problem
Search for gear popping out, and see where it gets you.
Good luck

The gear is not popping out. When shifting the gear would get stuck for a split second then release with a rubberband like effect...

Mine would sometimes just pop out of second as you touch the shifter to shift, no pressure towards the shifter, just pops. My car is in for the battery recall, I notified the adviser about it. We'll see what they say.

Thanks for your response. In my case the shifter stays in gear. Almost as if it was held in by a rubberband. After a split second it allows me to shift with what I can best describe as a pop. As if the band holding it in gear snapped.

It's hard to describe. It only happens once every 30 min shifting from 1-2 and 2-3. Both hot and cold.

I have two guesses for you.

Firstly, the gears on many transmissions are "undercut" which means the gears don't pull apart under power or engine breaking. If the gears are resisting disengagement, maybe the transmission is still either applying force to the transmission. This would mean the clutch is not fully disconnecting the power to the tranny. My clutch seems to do this a bit when it's cold.

Second guess is transmission fluid. My old e46 shifted like a truck until I changed the fluid with something better and newer than 6 y/o oem.

Mines pops out of 1st gear while accelerating, this has happened the 5th time. Does yours make a bang when it pops out?

On the other problem, my e46 popped out of gear once. My wife was driving, it popped out of second and she told the mechanic during our next service - boom, new tranny under warranty. I was pretty shocked.

I think this is likely. Does it happen with "normal" driving as well, or only when you get on it?

Though my thoughts were initially fluid related. Is your clutch hydraulic fluid topped off?.....I would also check the tranny fluid and depending on how many miles on the car, look into changing it....even though this happens with 1-2, 2-3 shifts.....it could be the start of something bigger....

I usually notice it 4k+ rpm. It does however happen when shifting 3k-3.5k as well (my normal shift point). The car is an 09 335xi with 21000 miles. I think a fluid change might be premature. I think I might have to wait for more problems to manifest before fixing anything...
