Unhappy Front Windshield replacement E90/ 2007

Greetings,

Today i requested a company to repair a couple of craks on my windshield, with that said, (while i was in the hospital getting my newborn they call me to make sure that i can open the car so i can let the hot air out to prevent any further craks. Anyways since i was in the hospital i couldnt do that so my dad who is visiting help the repairman into the car) When the repairman started to repair the windshield a crack of a size of a dollar bill appeard and now he wont be able to repair it. So now i have the option to call my insurance company (deductible 500) or pay out of pocket. I think i will go and pay out of pocket just because i dont want to go trough the hassell of dealing with the insurance company. Anyways after that they reapairman quote me 579 dollars to replace the windshield do you guys think that is a fair price. I havent been able to check with the dealer but i am actually afraid of what they are going to say about it. The price at BMWparts website for the windshield is approximately 306 that is without the gasket for the windshield that is another 120 dollars.

So they question is; Is 579 dollars to replace a Windshield w/rain sensor and the green visor is a fair price?

My windshield was vandalized a few weeks ago. The dealer quoted me $982 to replace it. A local windshield company quoted me $279 and my deductible was $500. I went with the local company and used the money I saved to buy an alarm for my car. The local company did a great job and I can't even tell that the windshield was replaced. Just make sure they have experience working on Bimmers, the guys that did mine knew my car very well.

Whenever I cracked a windshield it was free under insurance? You guys don't have $0 glass deductibles?

Replaced mine with aftermarket windshield around $320, the installer came to my garage and did the job.

glass is covered under comprehensive. In most cases thats a zero deductable!

I live in Germany and have a 300 euro deductable for comp claims(no zero deductable over here for us military ppl). I had my 135i windshield replaced for 900 euros. At first they quoted me 1,000 euros. I had a few one-series guys in the states tell me they spent $1,400 for their new glass. Just FYI.

I honestly don't see any difference. I don't see paying an additional $250 (at least) for the OEM glass will be less likely to crack and stuff. Getting cracked windshield or not mostly involve luck, your living area (lots of trucks on the road or not) and your driving habit (how fast you are going).

Noop! Comp covers ALL GLASS breakage. Doesn't matter how. Talk to your agent to be 100% sure. Thats means: windshield, sunroof, mirrors, fog lights, ect.

When a windshield gets a crack... the insurer will want to make the cheapest repair first. Like those crack repairs. But... they will also pay for a new windshield if need be.

I paid about 800 for an X5 and 7 series replacement, each. I would go OEM. I heard aftermarket glass is thinner.

You got a point about the price. I think i will go that route.

I would think so. There's no way of getting the sticker off without destroying it.

If your sticker gets completely destroyed because of replacing the windshield, then your installer really doesn't know how to work carefully.

My installer removed it and replaced my inspections sticker back on the new windshield no problem. Yeah sure it's a little wrinkled but nothing torn or what not.

Heard of??? Is it confirmed that aftermarket glasses are thinner??? Like I said, it's more of a luck and driving habit that will get you the crack and not the glass itself. My windshield was hit multiple times after I had it replaced and it's fine, so to sell me the idea that OEM is always better??? Na I will go aftermarket for things like this.

Still if OEM glass gets you the satisfaction, stick with it. It's your money.

I think i will go with OEM one from BMW parts and then i will have somebody install it.

Talked to the company that came over to repair the windshield and since they cracked beyond repair they will replace it. Now i am trying to get an OEM windshield as the replacement, time will tell if they can do it or not. I will be happy no matter what since i wont have to buy a windshield anyways.

Sorry to bring this back, but someone replaced my windshield recently, but they did not replace the rain sensor. Am I just plain screwed? I see no other way to get the rain sensor on it without it having been on there from the factory.
