BMW Servicing??? Worth it?

I got a e92 320i 08 plate, its got full service history with bmw... now i originally got quoted £390 for a full service from bmw originally because i knew the chap who worked there since now he has left

The girl who works there quoted £530 a full service sparks, oil the usual... is it really worth my time and money maintaining the servicing through bmw? is it really beneficial having full service history with them or it doesn't matter? should i get a quote from another bmw dealer in another town....

Opinions please guys

Thanks
Richie

I'd say it's beneficial in terms of making the car more attractive when selling. In your position I'd call around.

Try maindealerdiscount.com - Saved me a lot of money. The 2 services I wanted were £380 at my local, they offered me £300 as a deal, MDD got it for me for about £210 elsewhere but still BMW. Also, they seem to have more dealers up North. They may even have your one.

Yes it is. BMW can be hilariously expensive if you take their first price. Ask them for a break down of the costs and put a bit of pressure on them. Tell them exactly what you think of their prices. For the record i had a massive service done on mine for £320. And mine is a 6cyl with more expensive spark plugs. I also sipplied my own Castrol Edge oil whixh saved my pocket £85 on BMW prices.

Again, my local one wouldn't let me provide my own. BMW said it was their choice.

what dealer is it? they obviously don't want your business then and it blatantly shows that they want to make a killing off you. Go elsewhere.

Get some prices from local BMW specialists to compare. I'd rather give my money to a local business who care about their customers rather than a franchised dealer, who, more often than not, do not care and want to bleed you dry.

Stephen James Ruxley. Their prices were similar to other dealers in the area. But I did go elsewhere.

Thanks for the recommendation the site, i checked the prices are decent but the nearest is like 120 miles away, i'm based in kings lynn norfolk, i got my quote at the bmw listers there... i thought it was a bit much it just seems as tho the girl hasn't done me any favours and put the full whack price on... i'd booked it in preliminary as they said they were gunna put courtesy car in with it for the day, but i dunno im having seconds thoughts... its just the privelege of a bmw stamp in the log book really isnt it?

I'm sure they'll come up with other reasons, but basically yes.

Have you called any Indies?

You could even call your local dealer and say I've got the same service for x at x dealer. What can you do?

That's silly money,and clearly a piss take!

How many miles has your car done?

It's already 4yrs old,and dependent on the mileage,I'd question whether a FSH is really worth paying over the odds for.

Ring around a few other dealers, and local indies,to get some prices for comparison.

£530.00!..................

Slightly off topic, but Stephen James BMW have the rudest staff I have ever dealt with...absolutely shocking service

@Richie0345...Try ringing up your local BMW independent and get a quote, and then ask your BMW dealer if they can price match or get as close to it as possible? I know my local dealer does.

Most dealers price match with indies I believe, given you have a genuine quote of course. That tip for asking for a detailed breakdown is good

I wouldn't just go by price. You need confidence that the work has been carried out in full and to a high standard. I've had too many issues with BMW dealers to trust them again and reports on forums about sub-standard and incomplete work is all to prevalent.

I'd rather go to a BMW specialist with a great reputation, safe in the knowledge that the car has been serviced to and beyond factory recommendations.

i just got re quoted again because i had the brake fluid done they knocked it done but apparently it has to have a vehicle check with them which is £60... so they quoted £445 with the vehicle check but they said they can knock it to £400, i rang other branches in cambridge (£292 without vehicle check tho) and norwich £388 without vehichle check, is £400 all in still a bit much.. or is it not too bad?

Dearie me man you got a quote from a BMW Indy for 200 quid vs 400 quid from your local dealer

It's a no brainer get the Indy to do

As long as cars serviced on time by someone decent whoes cares who did it

At the end of the day it's only replacing routine items

Plus the 60 quid vehicle check is just taking the piss out of you, charge you 60 quid to check you car has an engine and four wheels on it

There's some right horror stories regarding servicing with one of my local dealers.

I always take mine to a BMW Specialist that I've used many times before.

For me, its quite simple. If your car is still under BMW warranty, then get it serviced by BMW. If not, go to an indy. I take mine to an indy and trust him a lot more than I do BMW!

Vehicle check is hilarious. I paid about £80 for my vehicle check. They failed to notice that one of the exhaust hangers was broken, meaning one of the backboxes was hanging low and that one of my rear wheels had a crack. If you're not under warranty - forget the vehicle check completely. £388 without vehicle check - take your own oil and that'll be £270.

Get them to price up everything using genuine BMW parts or the dealer will not accept the quote as it won't be like for like.
