Clanking when switching gears

I drive an A/T 325i and when I put the car into a different gear, say from D[rive] to R[everse], I usually hear a "clank" like some kind of metal plates making contact with each other.

Should I take the car to the dealer and can this be fixed?

Has it always done this? If this sound is new, I would suspect a problem.

BTW, I had a problem with the Universal at the rear Diff. It wasn't lubricated correctly during the build, and there was a clunk now when going from forward to reverse or back (I have a manual - but the problem is the same irrespective of transmission).

There's a TSB and revised 'parts pack' on this. Considering you have the same year and model, it might be the same thing.

My car doesnt feel "solid" as some people would say. I always hear some sort of rattling/clank noise inside or outside the car. It just feels like there are to many loose pieces in the car
