May be a dumb question, but what's the positive effects of this?

Think the egr valves get blocked and ths helps with flow. Apparently helps with mpg and more spritely performance!

Please mention it needs coding or else you will get MIL error on dash.

CORRECT

I've done over 12000 miles now and now EML or MIL error.
It doesn't show up on the ECU when code reading that its been removed - not on something generic like an snapon scanner or the BMW GT1 system

EGR is actuated by vaccum valves and a code 'P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Insufficient' will be thrown if EGR generation is not possible unless this kit either codes out or has some way to fool the EGR vaccum mechanism. If it doesn't do on your car then fine there must be something stopping the error code.

Theoretically all code can be cleared but if underlying fault isn't fixed the code reappears as soon as the next check is made.

btw. ISTA/D, DIS and GT1 is BMW system which will report ALL the code for their respective MY BMW.

After 12000 miles plus, I would have thought the car has been through enough cycles to throw a code up by now. But no, not codes stored.

Nothing to 'fool' the vacuum mech, nothing adjusted or re-coded within the ECU

The old egr unit was working as it should before I removed it

Uses I must be just plain old lucky

? ? ? Not seeing what you're getting at here and with the capitalisations - you've lost me.

It ia no thread jack bud. Given your assurance I will buy it then. Just to confirm again which car engine did you try this on? Not sure if bi-turbos have different egr setup. Eitherway I can get it coded out if error comes up but it was a bit of pain so was trying to avoid. Your report given me a ray of hope.

Capitalization is for product names as BMW writes them and MY is model year.
