Front Facing T4 TS Project
First, this is probably going to take me a while to complete in between work, school, and day to day life. However, today I got started on my new project. The plan is to remove the stock radiator and to install a mini radiator to create room for a front facing turbo. In order to run a manifold up front I plan on fabbing a new coolant reservoir in another location as well as relocating/deleting stuff in the way. Right now the turbo I'm leaning towards is a T4 TS Borg Warner Airwerks s300sx FMW. My goals are to have a quick spooling setup, that will make decent power, and that will not be a pain in the ass to work on after its on the car. I haven't spent a ton of time under the hood of my 335i since its just a DD at the moment but I'm assuming I can just route a DP under the engine instead of snaking it through the engine bay. Since I finally got a tig welder (Eastwood tig 200) and I had some SS come in from Acestainless this week so I got cracking today.

My main concern would be sub par coolant capability. This car is notoriously HOT not to mention the transmission putting a strain on the temp as well.

Surprised only one person caught the 4 banger style divided collector but im planning on splitting 2 runners into 4 closer to the cylinder head for space conservation. Im going to need all the space i can get for twin gates, not to mention i wanted tomake it easier to fab. If i was doing an undivided setup id do a 6-1 collector but since im dealing with the ts cyl pairing restrictions i thought this would be more feasible.

The runners are going to have a similiar split like the DOC race manifold pictured but instead of one splitting to three I'm going to have one splitting to two + a lone runner going to each collector. This might be bold or overly ambitious but I want my design to turn out better than this one. Besides placement I want to incorporate better EWG routing coming off the collector's than the manifold pictured (ie. I want them coming off at an angle that is conducive with the exhaust gas flow) and I want to eliminate using cheater cuts on my design.

Good luck.
I'm sure you remembered in your project that it's important that the o2 sensors read the appropriate banks. (i.e. Cyl 1-3 and 4-6, Bank 1 and Bank 2 Respectively). If you mate the o2 sensors all in 1 bank it will likely cause drivability problems. So be sure to mate the o2 sensors in a good location that read 1-3 separate from 4-6 cylinders. |

There's already atleast one DIY single turbo out and running around. It's runnning a JB4 IIRC.
