Decision Time MV3's or CSL Reps?
The background: I have 3 of my alloy wheels with cracks in them, I rang bmw stealers and was advised that as 3 alloys have cracks in them it is very unlikely that the replacement will be honoured, however if i want, i can book the car in for a tolerance test after which i will be given a verdict, I am now running non-rft and will have to put RFT back on to send car in.
The options: 1) get all cracks welded which will cost 250 pounds (although i have been advised that a rim with more than 1 crack ideally should not be welded) 2) source genuine mv3 alloy wheels that has never been cracked/refurbed and sell mine for whatever i can as they are 3) slap on some sexy Hyper black CSL replicas with concave rears which will cost me 420 pounds supplied and fitted, plus i get to keep my existing tyres. (one of the reasons i do not want 19's as ride and comfort will be compromised and will have to buy tyres as well. I really dont know what to do as i have been told that 18" CSL reps will look odd and if i do spend $$$ on mv3's, my car will still look the same so i dont see a point? Any views will be appreciated. p.s my car is anthracite sparkling grey Last edited by bazz780; 02-21-2012 at 09:44 AM.. |

Get the CSL reps. Why would 18" look odd?

Get the CSL reps.
Have you driven your car on 19's? I think the car drives better on 19's than 18's. |

i have not driven my car on 19's but do drive my mates E46 m3 which is on 19's and you have to dodge every single pothole, ditch and can feel too much of the road, plus the downside is that i will have to pay 200 on top for the tyres as i can use my rubber on the 18's

i wouldnt mind this option but will be out of pocket by 90 pounds if it dont work in my favour, plus will cost me 40 pounds to get a tyre shop to change my tyres for my mates RFT's and vise versa (so total of 130 pounds gamble)

CSL 19 by all means.
What is the point of buying something which you already had? Is that a real change? or simpley replacement. Come out of replacement shell and get in to palace of change.

I have 18" CSL reps in hyper silver although they look a bit like dark nickel as in the image from the OP. I will get a picture if you like. I think they look pretty good and I completly understand the financial logic as to why it should be 18's.

19's would fill the arches better but at the end of the day you would still need to lower the car a bit for it to look right. If you stick with the 18's I think the car will look fine and the current wheels do a decent job of filling the arches as it is. You might just want to consider throwing on some spacers. Given your choices I'd stick to 18's with the CSL Reps and save yourself some cash.

Both will look good. If you change go with 19's.

I think the 18's will look fine. I can understand from the pothole point of view but I already avoid them with the 18's fitted. The roads are shocking in this country and they are getting worse at a rapid rate.
They resurfaced a road near where I live about 4 weeks ago. They snow and Ice came and its all crack and potholed and needs resurfacing again!! What a waste of money!! |

Just to be the devil on your shoulder, ill sell you my 2000 mile old MV3s for a good price? Came off my 61 plate E93 so are practically new, no marks etc.

You may have your answer to this from Dele z but I fear that a good set of nearly new MV3's will be worth more than a brand new set of CSL reps.
About the spacers though. I have thought that the rear wheels on mine look a little bit sunk but they are the right offset and wasn't sure if they would rub with spacers. Although they look a bit sunk the gap between the arch and the tyre in a horizontal direction (make sense?) seems to be very small. Bazz, where will you get your wheels from? Maybe Motorsprort wheels in Dartford? |

I can also check the offset and make sure the wheel sits right etc before driving away. |

+1 For 19" CSL reps! But definately not hyper black, i like the Matt black or plain silver on grey (in fact i'm really struggling to decide between the two for mine)
