someone stole my plate
Damn,
someone stole my front plate. I was driving yesterday without knowing it and police caught me asking me why my front plate is missing. I told him I wasnt even aware of it, he gave me a ticket for $110. I swear I didnt know it was missing my plate holder was still in place which means I didnt take off the whole front plate for the looks like some do... Anyways, ticket for $110.. sucks. Where do I get another front plate? MTO? or can I just go to a store that makes those plates and tell them to create one for me, I think I saw one before.. MTO might take long, and am I even allowed to drive my car around now? so stressed because of some douchbag,,

You might want to go change your plates at the MTO.....if someone steals a plate, its usually to put on a stolen car.
Not sure what others may recommend, but the MTO can give you new plates on the spot as long as they are not personalized plates as fas as I am aware. Shitty that the cop gave you a ticket. I would fight it and show them that the plate holder was still on the car, and the receipt for your new/replacement plates when you get them. |

This is happening a lot. My GF's sister's plates were just stolen from a downtown Condo parking lot.

Thats messed up man! MTO gives you new plates right away. Unless you want the same plate number or a personal plate then you gotta wait.

They count any traffic violation as a violation now, and even a ticket that doesn't take away points can still affect your insurance. |

I have special screws for my plates, they are basically like wheel locks.

You have to inform the police (go to the police station) and file a report of your missing plate. Afterwards, you will have to go to MTO and inform them the same and request new plate immediately.
As for fighting the ticket, you do have grounds to go and dispute the charge. |

That being said, fight it anyways because you never want to "admit fault" by paying a ticket. I agree with the others, get new plates and notify police/MTO about your stolen plate and return the other. This can be done on the spot. If you're really concerned with your premiums ask your broker for confirmation. P.S. it wouldn't hit you until renewal if that's any conciliation. |

Fight the ticket. Set up a first attendance appointment with the prosecutor and advise him or her that your plate was stolen. They will certainly drop the charges. The intent of that charge is to fine people who willingly don't use front plates.

1. if the front plate was indeed stolen, report it to the your local police station as stolen or missing
2. goto MTO and tell them your plates are stolen/missing and you have already reported it to the police, they will issue you another one 3. from what i remember, no front plate is NOT a moving violation so no points are associated with the ticket 4. go see the prosecutor within 14 or 15 days as stated on your ticket with your receipts from MTO and explain to them what happened. 95% of the time the ticket will be withdrawn good luck. |

First you got to go through the police station to get a form signed saying your plate was stolen.
then you got to take that form to the MTO WITH your rear plate and registration and say you want a new plate if you want to keep your old plate number then its 356.50 and it will take 6 - 16 weeks for them to mail you the new one (in which time you get to keep your old plate and a form that says your waiting for new ones so that should keep the cops from giving you tickets) and then when you get your new plates you have to go back and get new stickers for the rears ones( messed up i know) but if you want to just get new plates then its 20 dollars and instant out the door i know this cause i went through getting my old plate remade recently |

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...es_90h08_e.htm The $110 ticket sounds like the same one you get for one of those plate covers. I'm NOT A LAYWER, but check the act and see if it makes any sense to you. Ontario, I believe does not state specifically that both front and rear license plates must be visible. Only rear with it's "valid sticker" must be clearly visible. (Pick up trucks are different, they must have a front plate with the sticker visible) Technically, all those dealer plate covers are illegal too. But that's a different story. And like everyone else suggested, make sure you file a police report with your plate being stolen and that'll most likely get the ticket taken away. But know what you're talking about before going in to fight the ticket. Yes, I got the license plate cover ticket and I was prepared to fight it. But honestly, $110 vs. a complete day off work... You'll lose more going to court than paying it. Last edited by Surfdog; 11-06-2012 at 02:01 PM.. |
