BMW Performance Exhaust or Dinan Free Flow Exhaust?

Hey guys, I'm trying to decide what exhaust to upgrade to but I'm undecided between the BMW PE exhaust or the Dinan free flow. Which is better in terms of performance/sound and why? Any help appreciated!

I had the BMW performance exhaust. It was way too loud and raspy- it was all on all the time.

I got sick of it after a week and I sold it.
I got the Dinan free-flow with Black diamond tips a month later.
It is a beautiful exhaust and sounds aggressive when you lean on it and sporty and civilized when you don't want the attention.

meh.. I'd say try to listen to both in person. A lot of the character comes from the in-cabin noise. I like the BMW PE for the same reason that Dark_Knight_335 likes his Dinan. The only thing is I've never tried the Dinan.

I don't think that it's on all the time. Cold starts are loud, but it tones down to nothing after 45 seconds or so. I like that there is no drone at low revs, and the sound is a good balance between rasp and throaty at high RPMs (which I like). The best sound though, actually comes from the downshifts - can't beat it. Check it out - youtube vids don't do any justice.

S3RI pretty much hit the nail on the head. It is really all personal preference. GL with whatever you decide to go with OP.

A couple of hundred. A friend of mine said he could get the BMW PE for $1250 and Dinan has a 15% off sale right now so I could get the Dinan for $1530

cb, take a trip to Ramsey NJ's Prestige BMW. Ask for Andrew, tell him Sal sent you. Take a ride in their Dinan car to hear for yourself.

Keep the stock exhaust. Golf tee/surgical clap mod. New tips from Cyba or somebody.
A little more sound without all the expense.

Save the >$1500 and buy some wheels or get a tune.

PM me if you are interested in a brand new Dinan exhaust D660-0012 for significantly less than the $1530 you are looking to spend. Start the saving for the next mod

How restrictive really is the stock exhaust? Maybe it's better just to modify the stock one.

I have the Dinan Free-Flow that I bought from a fellow poster here in the private "For Sale" section. It was a month old and the previous owner decided to go cat-back and sold me the Dinan for half price. I really like the sound and look of it. Another alternative is the 335is exhaust, which is available for a lot less than the BMW PE, particularly if you purchase it from Tischer BMW (www.getbmwparts.com).

I've got the PE exhaust coupled with PE software and the sound is perfect - it is more aggressive than the Dinan exhausts that I have heard. For me putting the PE exhaust on my car enhanced my whole experience with driving the car - I love how it pops and crackles on deceleration and between shifts and wails exotically in the upper rev ranges. I drive whenever I can with the windows down to hear it.

While I don't love the tips on the PE exhaust, I really don't like the cheap looking double walled tips on the Dinan.

I get a tiny bit of drone at low rpm on the freeway, but it doesn't bother me at all.

You can't go wrong with either unless you are looking for a much more aggressive sound.

Thanks for the advice. I agree the walled tips on the Dinan are cheap looking, but I like the fact that they offer black tips which would compliment my car since it is jet black.

I also have the BMW PE with BMW Perf tune....it is honestly awesome. It sounds just perfect, not too loud and not too quiet. I have an N55 so it sounds a little deeper than the 54 but I drove a '10 335 with the PE for a couple months and it was awesome. The dinan exhaust is a rip off and is way too quiet. If you want it to crackle and pop, get the perf tune too....heres a video of my car at low speeds. it gets addicting
