should I change my lease to a purchase?
the financing rate is really good at 3.9%. The difference is only about ~$140/mo so it's not a big deal. I want to tint the windows and put a clear bra on my car. I am really concerned that by tinting the windows (not done by my dealer) that I am going to get nickel and dimed upon turned in. As I understand aftermarket tint will result in a 3rd party looking over the car at lease turn in and I have hear that they are pretty bad.

based on the current BMWFS financing offer. I asked my CA for a new payment quote if I change my mind before taking delivery (~June 20)

The Tint And Bra Will Not Be An Issue At All At The Time Of Least Turn In. I've Turned In An E90 With Tint, Headlight OverLays, Custom Grilles, KerSher Front Lip, ACS Side Skirts And Rear Apron, And BlackLine Tail Lights. The Only Thing That Needed To Be Stock Were The Wheels And Tires. They Didn't Give Me Any Problem For Anything Else. But That Is A Pretty Good APR So You Might Consider It. Plus You Won't Have To Worry About Mileage Limitations.

if someone hits your car and causes moderate damage ($2K or more) on carfax you probably will see a hit of 10-20% in value. It is a real concern of ownership.
You will sell this car eventually, factor service of $1500/year after 4yr/50K and 7/100K warranty to cover your butt unless you plan on voiding the warranty . I too pondered this since i could have loaned myself the money but these turbo cars are far too expensive and with dinan only covering 4/50K. Perhaps one of you math geniuses can come up with a TCO and scenario situation including maintenance predictable failure costs, PM, and possible diminished value from an accident. Also you can take the residual values for 48/60 month and bump them down a bit since we all know bmw overinflates their residuals to guestimate the cars value. You'll probably get bored of the car in the 60 to 84 month range so you could run the figures and guestimate resale value and see how much better you will be 5-7 years from now versus re-leasing the car and driving new hotness with (on-star,maintenance,warranty,yadda). It was a tough choice for me. but time is money and not wasting my time on dealing with issues is more money in my pocket. I'd definitely like to see some math genius work up a realistic spreadsheet.

See if you can turn it in and have them 'certify' it and sell it back to you for the same price you already agreed apon. This will extend the warranty period to 100,000 miles instead of 50,000.

another thought process I am going through is that by the time my lease would be up (36 mos), the new body style may be out. I may love it or hate it but it would give me an out option.
miles driven over the course of a year is not much of a concern to me. I have only driven 14k miles over the past 16 mos and that includes a trip from California to Colorado. |

yes the new audi b8 A4 will be fiercely competitive given it comes in a 4 banger version and quite honestly is very nice inside and out.
Bmw will have to do something soon. the a5 makes the (3'er) smoke pole on looks imo. If they just had a turbo (4) or (6) i'd have rocked that coupe. But thats a good reason to lease. It's not an appreciating asset like LV or Chanel items. It's not a classic like LV or Chanel; items which will be stylish in 60 years to pass to your kids. So why invest too much effort into ownership? It just leads to stress and headaches. I understand there are those who like to mod and those who are really rich but the tax benefit of leasing for your business are very real. I wanted them to give me 0 money factor with all payments as security deposits but they thought i was the devil. Prepay 100% lease with no loss-recourse in case of accident and you give me 0 money factor. Seemed like a fair deal to me. Those crazy germans. Probably all wearing PVC clothing at BMWFS

Lease it. If you want to keep it at the end, buy it. You can probably negotate a lower price than the residual. I wouldn't buy it at the end for the full residual. I'm leasing, and was thinking about buying, but I'll probably want a newer one at the end of my lease.

I think its always better to just get a new one when the lease is up. If there is a new body style about to come out BMW is always happy to extend your lease a few months to wait for the new model. The only extra cost is you have to pay another year registration for only a month or two of driving. Plus it can be really expensive to properly maintain an older BMW once the warranty expires. Just turn her in.. you'll love the new one even more!
