You can drive a locked diff on the street, it hops around corners. It sucks, but you can. Members here drive their cars slammed with coilovers, and you shouldn't be able to drive that on the street either, but people do. Just two different extremes. One is for straight line performance, and the other is for aesthetics.

So are you saying that VIP should discontinue pushing the envelope in regards to performance mods on the 335 simply because it is contrary to what members on E90post want? Help me out here...I'm trying to grasp the concept that is being pushed. It's illogical to me, I must admit this. I just don't get it!

How streetable is your car right now on those 19inch HRE's with 4XXrwtq? That's something that I've always wondered...
Ok you obviously dont know what a locked diff is... You cannot run it on the street because the car will not turn... I had one in my Miata, it goes in a straight line and thats all... You can try to turn but you will love the sound it makes and when it hops...

My car is very streetable right now even with all that torque, i put on 275 conti sport 2's in the rear and i no longer peel out at the top of second or 3rd like i used to on 265's... I did a second gear pull with a stock 335 sedan last night and put at least 6 car lengths on him easy just in second gear and then got even further away in 3rd... I love my car

So down4it, you did not drive your Miata? For what purpose did you have the car?

11.2 at 121mph is smoking fast regardless of if they used nos or not. Regardless of what power adders are used, it still takes a good deal of work to run that fast. Especially if you don't have anyone faster than you to emulate/copy

Obviously I don't know what a Locked diff is when I have a damn near 800rwhp Mustang with a spool in it that sees both street and strip duty. You may not like the noise...it definitely can be used on the street though.

I once mentioned that peeling out was the source of the "my car is so fast" commentary that I see around here. Now I'm convinced of it. Get that thing to a 1/8 or 1/4 mile track ASAP for us! Can't wait to see what type of times you post.

Seeing as how your sig shows pics of an autocross.....I don't think BMW designed axle hop in part of their handling characteristics.

Nice times but not for me.

I don't think BMW designed their car for drag duty either. But the fact that somebody pushes the envelope to make this car fast is nothing to shun at. I went to the strip, and I ran a shoddy 13.7 @ 103 all day. It was like a bracket car to me. And these guys run a 11.2 and people give them crap about it because it's not streetable. Who cares? Whenever somebody goes the extra (quarter) mile to improve on something, it's a step forward.

Imagine if BMW, Shiv, AA, Dinan, Terry, VIP, H&R, TCK, Bilstein, KW, never pushed the envelope and tried to do things better. Then we'd be stuck with a shitty E90 and worthless mods like LED license plate lights and shift knobs.

I'm not much of a 1/4 mile guy, had a few faster runs in cars of the past but I would never give grief to a company / tuner / person who can go faster than anyone has before in that vehicle. Kinda like.... well it's useless to have an IQ of 170, it's not very useful in your every day life.

Rest assured that you will see times as good, if not better than above out of stock GTRs.

Driving a car with a locked diff on real roads (as in "with turns") must put an incredible stress on the transmission!

+1, the YouTube video I saw said they wreck Nissan's ET 1/4 time by .3 seconds!

Nobody said his times are bad; just that he's built a great drag car with some mods (that supposedly he's selling or planning on selling to the public ) that most ppl would find too expensive or just not appropriate for a DD 335i.

My point has always been that anyone with enough $$ and technical knowledge (or even more $$ to hire someone with enough technical knowledge) can build a race car or drag car out of virtually any stock car, whether it be a Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, Dodge Neon SRT-4, or a BMW 335i. But for some cars, what's the point (imho)?

However, the mods that most ppl do and/or consider doing for the 335i (Piggyback or ECU Flash tune, exhaust, DPs, intake, etc.) are enough to make a very fast stock 335i even faster, but still retain 100% of the driving characteristics of the stock 335i.

No doubt Jacque has an extremely fast "dragster" 335i, but for 98% of the 335i drivers, some of his mods are are just too extreme. My guess is that a 335i modded in this fashion will be stressed out to the point of failure, but for Jacque, it's no big deal since he's a BMW "Master Mechanic."

Kudos to him for building such a fast car...even on MS109 race gas and DRs (and possibly NOS), 11.2 sec. @ 121mph is certainly impressive (although we've yet to see the timeslip or the actual dynos which for he claims 456WHP, much less the original dyno "promised" that showed 423WHP).

Other than the locked diff all the mods on the VIP car and items they are currently or plan on selling are in demand by a lot of members of these forums. IC, upgraded Oil Cooler, Piggybacks, intakes, charge pipes, etc... are what many folks are looking for.

Regardless of how it got done, VIP managed to get damn near in the 10's with a 335. Instead of hating, people should praise that. Is it practical for 99% of us? Hell no, but that doesnt change what they accomplished.

Really? Upgraded TQ converter/stall converter, modified intercooler piping (hot side and cold side), cutouts, custom crank case vacuum & oil catch can adapter, custom mapped (by him) XEDE, fully locked Quaiffe differential????? Not exactly the typical mods most ppl would consider.

The only things that seem a bit extreme are the custom crank case, oil catch can, and locker. Converter, piping, cutouts, and Xede (custom or not) is not a huge deal.
