Any figures for 325d from Kempower? There is nothing on their website yet!
Blame you, I really want a remap now!

Alpina D3 has the same gear ratios and final drive as the 320d. I suppose that the gerabox are identical. |

Yes it´s the same box.
Both BMW and Alpina uses the S 6-37 from ZF in the manual 320d/D3. |

Hey, AK. Enough talking about it, go do it (especially as your car can show you the way now)

Hahaha!
Thanks Paul! Yes I´ll definitively do it! I mailed ZF and asked about the manual box in the 320d and got the pdf about the S 6-37. The PR guy there reckoned the box could take some more than the 340Nm, but kept telling me that the warranty would be voided and blah-blah-blah Yes I know it probably will be, but as far as I know there haven´t been any issues with remapped e90s (yet, knock on wood and so on) By the way, doesn´t Kempower have a warranty of some sort? Think I´ll send an email and ask them. Last edited by AK; 02-15-2008 at 01:15 AM.. |

When I had my old e39 530d, it was my BMW dealer who did the remap, so I'm sure there's no problem. I'm not sure if Kempower offers a warranty, but I doubt they would have such a good reputation if there were reliability issues. Just one thing to note, given that your car is so new - they recommend you have at least 10,000km on the clock so that the engine is already 'at its best' before they start tweaking it.

I'm at Kempower right now, using wifi from a hotel next to it
My car first need reflash by BMW, I have about 5hours to wait for only that to happen... but I'm getting the latest full progman upgrade I guess it's good ? I've no idrive in the car so I do not rely know what latest progman will bring, but I like to be on the latest release. 5hours at BMW... then remap 3 to 4 hours... a long day ahead... |

Done !
I'm very pleased with the new tuning by kempower, incredible difference compared to previous tuning. What I've learned today. From BMW engineer: Gear box can take 1.7x nominal NM before it breaks into parts (manual) up to 2x for auto. In my case that makes 340nm x 1.7 = 578nm. No problem there ! Diesel quality: Shell gona close all small station, do not go there anymore use Jet instead or big Shell station (that apply to belgium for diesel quality) |

Got the car delivered with 150HP for taxes purpose, then first tuning (not kempower) 205hp 457nm, but very bad car handling.
Decided to go to kempower, first step is an original reflash by bmw dealer (so 150hp) then kempower upgrade. They did it very well |

He probably has the detuned 163hp version, same as me. I think it was made especially for Belgium and then Norway later caught on.
Sorry, you beat me to the punch Very nice car! And even nicer in the remapped version But how exactly was the handling bad with 457Nm? Last edited by AK; 03-30-2007 at 04:40 PM.. |

I was, as any bmw ecu tuned owner, stressed about engine breaks.
I had a really good chat with a BMW engineer, says that he never saw a 'well' tuned bmw having troubles. You're right, it's delivered de-tuned to 150hp for Belgium or you can choose the 164hp version but what's the need if you gonna remap it anyway ? The 150hp as only an ecu modif compared to 164hp otherwise it's the same engine / car in general. |

Lesson learn !
It's not because you get better figures (457nm) that the car will be better at handling. After a professional tuning by kempower, even if the number are lower, the car is incredibly different ! before it was not linear, drop in power as from 3600rpm. So even if a peak of power give you 457nm, if the curve is not linear I'm now questionning the dyno from my previous tuner ? was it really 457 ? for ref my previous dyno |

Ah - we don't have that option in uk I think? Makes sense as you were getting it chipped anyway.

And I also talked to my BMW dealer, they see a lot of chipped 320d's, and never had any problems resulting from it. But since now BMW can detect the 'upgrade' on the ECU, they can't give warranty anymore.
