215/55R17 winter tires on 335xi too big?

I'm planning on putting winter tires on the OEM wheels. In my experience, narrow tires do much better in deep snow than wide tires. I measured the clearance around the front tire and it appears there is clearance for a 215/55R17 tire (26.36 OD). The speedometer would actually be accurate with a 215/55R17 too because it's currently about 5% fast and it would give me another 1/2" of ground clearance in the winter. Has anybody installed 215/55R17 on a 335xi? Any problems?

Did you check Tire Rack to make sure those wheels will clear the front brakes? I ran into a similar issue with Sport Edition wheels. I ended up keeping the tires and TPMS but selling the wheels because the inner barrel didn't clear the front brakes...

The wheels arrived today. I put one on the front and there is more clearance for brakes than the OEM wheels. OEM wheel was rusted on....took a lot of kicking to get it off!

I'm going to see if I can get BMW center caps that fit or at least BMW decals to go over the current center caps.
