Garmin Power cord and armrest
I am having trouble closing the compartment for iPod-USB once I plug in my GPS into the power slot.
The power adapter sticks up a bit, and I need to force the lid (the arm rest on center console). The cord also comes out, and there is no cavity to let the cord sit in there while the lid is closed. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there another power source located in the front side which I could use? Or I can switch the DC adapter and get something smaller? Thanks a lot guys!

On my E90 theres a plug under the glove compartment towards the center dash. Look there! I use it to plug my radar detector in.
Edit: Its not under but towards the left side of it. |

I think I read somewhere on here where someone dremel'd a slot for their power cord in their armrest though, so if that is of interest you might try a search... |

I would be careful forcing the lid closed as it may put undue stress on the hinges. The hinges on my E46 broke when my son closed the lid with a pen that fell into the wrong spot.
As far as the cord goes, you could put a small notch somewhere along top edge of the compartment. Get a small round file and go slow until you have just enough room for the cord. What model Garmin are you using?

I had the same issue, so I picked up something similar to this:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/LED-1-3-Socket-Ci...item5d2bbd7a7d The power adapter itself is quite small so the lid closes with ease and then I put the housing in the cup holder inside the center console (which is useless to me anyway) so everything is nice and neat inside. With this you can now plug in your huge Garmin power adapter, satellite radio, or any other device of your choice without worrying about the lid not closing. Hope this helps! |

Thanks guys!
I am using Garmin 255W, pretty cheap GPS, but very reliable so far. I missed the free map updates thanks to getting busy in the wrong time, by 3 days, I was in my 63rd day when I hooked it up to my computer. I will look for another slot as pointed out.
