Crashed while drifting(pics)
Well first off.. I Have securely fastened my flame suit and I have left no spot open vulnerable...
That being said.. I do drift turns every now and then.. Just started drizzling came around a nice 90 deg turn in first slipped the clutch and i gotta say awd is amazing but the one downfall when all wheels are spinning and your not in the right angle that it kicks the back-end out your asking for trouble So i come into the turn a little to straight, spun em.. and the front wheel cracks right into a curb.. All the little 4x4 lights go crazy and my rim i can feel right away is shot.. Well the rim is totaled and my car is just sitting on the side of a road.. There it is... Lesson learned.. I had 19" CSL Reps what do u think im looking at in damage.. And what is the likely hood of the tire being shot.. Btw nooo car damage thank god.. I will have pics tommorow morning.. Thats for listening UPDATE: I have further looked at the damage.. and ohhh my i believe i have broken the control arms or axel or whatever bmw uses because the wheel is pushed back into the fender.. I had it towed to BMW from roadside.. very cool service btw and im gunna have to go through insurance.. Im gunna try to get a new set.. I hope they give me a set of wheels..

ouch... at least the car is ok, you probably have to get a new alignment and yes the wheel is probably shot.. have it towed to a local tire shop, I'd advise to not drive it...

If you can afford to keep it out of the insurance company's hands - do so!

i feel ya, i used to do this all the time in my evo 8 there are 2 90 degree turns back to back just go into them in 2nd and give it hell on the way out its a blast! i did it in the 335xi the other day it works in this car too lol
- note - I had my car in the air today doing coilovers and noticed how weeny our transfer case is.. thats gonna suck i doubt this thing will last long with some bigger power mods than my vishnu i have now... So i need to get an extra and im taking it to Shepherd Racing to see if he can get some forged gears made for this thing He is my neighbor so it works out and hes a tranny/diff guru. |

what do you think insurance is going to do about the wheel.... Maybe they will think its a BMW wheel and give me like a thousand bucks!
Thanks for any help in my crappy situation... I also had to put my dog to sleep today so my day has been really bad but im still healthy and trying to stay positive

LOL.... Don't drift in an awd car unless it's in the snow and in a parking lot with no one around. BMW, like every car manufacturer uses both control arms and axle. You're axle is probably ok, but your lower control arm is definitely bent, your spindle/hub assembly/wheel bearing is most likely toast and theres a chance your knuckle along with the strut is broken as well. File an insurance claim and take the premium hit because this sure won't be cheap to fix. Everyone makes mistakes, the key is to learn from them |

Nothing like trying to drift your awd car on the street while its raining, huh?
Sorry to hear about your accident, but hopefully you have learned from it. BTW, I use to live in Suffolk County... what road were you trying to drift on? Also, most of repair money will most likely come from suspension components if you messed up any of them, and not your CSL rep.

my friend used to drift the hell out of e46 xi, and right when warranty went out, he ended up having to replace the transfer case, the rear axle and some other rear drivetrain parts. let's just his total bill at the end was not a pretty one and it was almost 20 pages long.
