Took off XDrive emblems, now I need to repair! Help!

Hey guys, I finally got around to taking the (subjectively) unattractive xdrive emblems off of my front quarter panels and have discovered quite the problem on my passenger side!

I did the hairdryer/floss method and both emblems came off without a hitch. Then after some goo gone, my driver side looks perfect, as if it was never there.

I bougtht this car CPO and discovered after the fact that the front passanger fender had some some respraying done to it (the fender had a small crack in it in the part covered by the hood when it's closed). Well now that the XDrive emblem is off, its clear that it's clearcoat was resprayed, and they left the emblem on when they did it.

Now I have a sharp border between the newest clearcoat (which is rippled all around the emblem and looks terrible!) and the smooth untouched original finish behind where the emblem was.

Does anybody good with detailing/painting have any suggestions on how I can go about fixing this that doesn't involve redoing the fender???

would it be possible to tape up the inside (original clear coat) and sand around where the oversprayed clear coat is? at least to a finer level so that it doesnt look that bad (no offence)???

I think some wet sanding would work.... Followed by some machine buffing....

Would it be wise to flake off (with my fingernail, say) the little bits of clearcoat by the "X" in "XDrive" that have lifted their bond and now have dirt under em? I'm not sure if it'd be better to remove some if that layer so that I can get rid of all that crud before sanding/polishing.
