Yeah, I'm in Utah. Altitude here is about 4250 above sea level. I guess that could make a difference. Anyone else at altitude with a pre 09/07 build without 29.2 who can compare the turbo performance? I feel mine come on between 2k and 3k rpms and really hit at around 3k.

Either they are idiots and someone who knows nothing about cars wrote the bulletin, or, they mean wastegate rattle might return. That is what I'm guessing. Basically, they are probably warning people the wg's might rattle, and not to complain. Fat chance. I want my $50,000 cake and I want to eat it too. No laggy - no rattly.

w00t! My cars Production date is 07/2007. And last time I went in for service I told my service tech "Do Not Update My PROGMAN" becuase I didn't want to get the lag. He said, "those are all rumors, BMW has told us there is no lag". Haha, I can't wait to show him this... I am with others, I would like confirmation that this does not affect tunes like piggy backs and SSTT before I get the update.

What would be hilarious is the placebo affect. Dealer does absolutely nothing and return the car back say its reflash...

Mine hits about 2k rpm, I am 10/06 build, and never had a software update. 5280+ elevation.

Mine is a 10/06 build and boost comes on at about 2k rpm too. I don't believe I've ever had a software flash other than some stuff updated when my alarm was activated.

What does this lag feel like? I've never driven anyone else's 335i. I understand there is a little bit of lag in the D setting because the car starts in 2nd gear. Is this what everyone is talking about?

Happy to hear there is a fix in the works for you guys... even if it is a month or two away.

please ask your service manager which firmware your M3's turbos are running.

they usually deny it, so you have to ask ardently

so where is the real proof (statement) from bmw acknowledging the problem? it's not on bmwusa or any other site that you can reference. if you print the reports from blogs the dealers will laugh in your face. we need a more official statement i guess

My dealer SA says end Jan -beginning February.
It marks the end of their current program sequence and requires all new progamming equipment.
But they do admit that the description in the previous posts is what it is about.

The letters do appear in the January 2009 issue of Roundel. In fact they printed 7 letters on the topic, nearly 2 full pages including yours, Eric.

Also printed is the official response from BMW NA.

Anyone got the new progman yet? Isn't the lag defect enough for them to upgrade the progman?

"available for vehicles produced from September 2007 through March 2008 when they are brought to an authorized BMW center for a repair which requires a programming update."

BMW NA...No Turbo Lag Fixes Yet as of Jan 2009

Just spoke with the clowns at BMW NA; no ideas of when the fix will be in for the turbo lag. Here's the lemon; no idea when it will be fixed either. They still must be doing more testing for the Z-4, so all 335i losers out there (like me).... you'll get the car you paid for when they feel like it. I have to stress to all the people who have not bought this car or thinking about buying it......DON'T. It's not just because it's a 50K car that can't stay out of the shop; it's because of the low class individuals which run the company. BMW has absolutely been the worst vendor I have ever dealt with...in my opinion, criminals are more useful than this company, at least they do something productive like making a license plate...and they do it "on schedule"...LOL. Here we are a year down the road.................to be continued

huh? Why call BMW NA? Just go to your dealer and get the fix.

It honestly hurts my head why you would say there are no fixes as of January 09, when A) it's in Roundel B) We said there was a fix coming a while ago, due in January, and C) there are literally over 100 posts pertaining to people getting the fix and the results.

WAKE UP
Hey Shipmate, Don't you think I've already been to the dealer; been going there for months now. You must be a BMW employee; I understand...I would be worried about my job too. Too all the people who want to understand better. I had to a retro upgrade because I had the newer software because my car was a late build; I repeat...it is not the fix for that version of software. Several people were having the same issue at our local BMW dealer. The car had no real lag, but the software caused the transmission to jump harshly when taking for foot off the brake or coming to a stop. That version of software had to be downgraded to disable the NIC. This is why so many people are complaining about their transmissions. That newer software also caused the miles on the odometer of one lady to increase at a faster rate than normal....that really sucked but she was downgraded too. I immediately told the dealer of the extremely slow acceleration of the software upgraded. The SA acknowledged and said BMW was coming out with new software to take of everything in January. So you see now why it's taking so long; the new upgrade is not out, so go back to your employer and tell them to fix it. You either have to deal with a funny transmission jerk or a slow car....personally that odometer thing absolutely scared me too. So how taking some B-12 and WAKING UP yourself.
