New to Coding - Success

Another new to coding thread...just wanted to say to all those looking to get into it, if you read, get a laptop, read, get a cable, read, install software and do a little reading...it's really not that bad. Don't get me wrong, I definitely asked for help (thanks to those who have helped) but if you just follow directions, it's really not too bad. I successfully coded my windows/sunroof to close with the key fob and corner delete before the battery on my laptop died (it's old and I didn't charge the battery). Once it's charged, gonna do the auto unlock and folding mirrors. Considering the Alpina transmission software, but not in any hurry. I'm also gonna start researching the diagnostic stuff so I can read my own codes that normally the dealer would only be able to see. I guess I have more reading to do.

I got into diagnostics way before trying to code. Chances are if you can code you can diagnose, you just need to change the .ini file in INPA so that your chassis comes up when you start INPA.

Well, thats good to hear. I was able to get the mirrors coded today, I was hoping they would fold when I locked with the comfort access on the door...and without having to hold it, but I still like the functionality. I didn't get the auto unlock to work yet though. I'll have to go back tomorrow and check to make sure I coded it right. I do have the auto lock feature enabled in the BC settings and ensured that I allowed them to lock when I got up to speed, but they didn't unlock when I turned the car off or ejected the key. I'll just have to mess with that one a little more. Other than, I'm pretty pleased with the progress I've made so far and the lack of errors (knock on wood). These forums are awesome!

Let me ask this. I'm currently working on flashing my AT to the Alpina (I have a 11/07 build date 335i sedan) and have found a guy from the site (******84 from Poland, really nice guy) that's gonna help me out with setting my laptop up to get this done. He will be setting my laptop up via TeamViewer from Russia for $30 with everything I need (I'm in Indiana). Anyway, will there be any issues with running my Copp AP while using the Alpina AT flash? Just want to make sure the Copp AP doesn't effect anything. I'm sure I'll have to unmarry it before the flash though. Is that correct?

Also, would one of these two cables http://www.amazon.com/Loftek-Interfa...=obd+bmw+cable or http://www.amazon.com/INPA-DCAN-Diag...=obd+bmw+cable be good enough quality for half the price of this one http://www.one-stop-electronics.com/...&product_id=16 ? Or should I just spend the $100 for the more expensive one?

Thanks for the help guys.

I say go for the one-stop-electronics. Most people have had no problems with the $100 cable. Why waste time and money to have an uncertain chance of receiving a faulty or working one. Get it done right the first time and get to coding!

I really want to get into doing my own diagnosis, tired of having to take it to the stealership. I've lost a good $125 for the stealership just to read codes before . Anyways I figured out what cable I need, but my real question is what software is needed for diagnosis? I want to be able to read the same codes the dealer can.

HI, You need INPA as a diagnostic tool, you will be able to read all the errors in your car. I also have DIS, it's really nice tool, works on VM. - For you car 2009 it should be enough.

To flash your ECU you need WinKfp, for coding NCSExper.
I have all this software, PM me if you want a little introduction.

Hey Spoolin, use the cchong4 advice and buy this cable here: http://www.one-stop-electronics.com/...&product_id=16 better to have a proven cable.

I knew it that it has to cost about 100 bucks. This cable will be working correctly.

Thanks ******, thanks what I'll do and will order it now. I'll get in touch with you as soon as it comes in.

Thanks again for all your help.
