Yes! Manual is the only way to go in a Porsche! Tons of fun!

Great car you ended up picking up!

Those two should last you some time, as you mentioned. Friend of mine used to have a Jetta of that vintage. Sort of meh besides the interior. I thought the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder sounded nice tho.

Thanks! My Jetta had the 2.0 turbo like in the GTI plus I put on 18" wheels, eibach sport springs and a rear sway bar from a GTI. It was lots of fun and pretty quick, but I really like the 328i a lot better.

Great choice on the upgrade and keeping the Cayman!

Mk5 GTI and 328 owner here. One thing I really liked about 328 is how effortlessly it eats up miles under high speed. The Mk5 2.0 turbos are great fun to drive, but can feel a bit tiring under prolonged 80+ mph drives due to high revs and noises.

Yes, very good point. Long distance cruising is a lot more relaxed with 328i...

Love the 987 generation Boxster/Caymans. I went with the Cayman because with my previous 88 VW Cabriolet and 97 Cabrio I left the roofs down a few times over the years here in Florida and was woken up by pouring rain at 3am and had to run out to put up the roof!

FWIW I have been daily driving my 2002 Carrera Targa (996) for over a decade and I bought my 09 335xi a few years ago as my "all season car".

I have been pleasantly surprised by the e90 and it has exceeded all expectations (with the exception of maintenance costs). The car feels nimble cruising backroads at high speeds, and the torque is intoxicating. With the MHD tune it is substantially faster than my 996 and I'm sure it can out accelerate almost anything especially when the roads are wet or frozen.

But the 996 is still more fun to drive. Steering feel is slightly better, brakes are more linear, and the flat 6 engine sounds magical. I imagine a newer Cayman would be very similar. Would I recommend a 335i as a fun car? Hell yes. Would I ever get rid of the Porsche (except to upgrade)? Hell no.

Yup, the handling on the Porsche and the sound of the flat 6 can't be beat. That being said I'm loving the 328i as my car for more than two people!
