Vishnu Catted DP vs AR Catted DP
Hey all,
I'm new to the forum, so hopefully you guys will see more of me around soon. I currently have the BMS downpipe, but that darn catless smell annoys my whole family lol. I'm looking into maybe purchasing one of those catted options. Anyone have either one and care to give their input on what they think of it? Thanks! |

Don't mean to jack redman's thread, but is there "absolutely no" value in installing a "catted" aftermarket DP, vice staying stock?

Gains from catted are about half the gains from cat less. The ar design DPs use high flow cats so there is still a big advantage getting them over stock, but of course not as much as if going cat less.

I'm not too concerned with losing a couple HP. I however love the sound that the catless Dp has unleashed. I feel like as long as my car is relatively quick (able to run map 2), the comfort level (smell) is high, and the sound upgrade is still there all will
Be good.

I guess another way to put it is... How much will going with a catted Dp plus map 2 yield (Hp wise) me versus going to stock Dp and running map 1?

umm you can still go map 2 with the stock dp. You just need the right octane to be able to support it.!

Everyone on this forum is so one minded. The guy gets it Catless is better than Catted obviously. But he cares more about the stinky smell than the HP he's getting out of the Catless DP.
I would honestly like to go down this route as well because I wouldn't want my 50K BMW to smell like shit either. But at the same time, I'd like a high flow DP so I can run MAP 2 without using NOS octane booster, which I heard makes your engine yellow. Is there anyone running a catted DP that can provide us with some info?

What specific info are you looking for? Don't have any before/after dyno numbers (just after) but can provide some insight from the daily driver perspective.
The catted AR downpipe plus JB4 map 2 sounds great, performs well, and doesn't give the smell nearly as badly as the catless variant. If you're in a garage with the windows down and stopped you might smell a little bit, or the car behind you might smell a bit when you're running rich... but again as long as you're not looking for the full power and just want the sound, smell and ability to run map2 it's definitely worth it. Running AR catted + vanguard exhaust the car sounds like a beast. |

No, ordinarily with the windows down at a stoplight you won't smell it. If there's a strong wind from the rear of the car you might smell a bit, but even so it's not very noticeable. It's the car behind you when you get on the gas in the low RPM range that will smell a bit, haha.
305HP/355Ft-lbs on a DynoDynamics, which I'm told would read equivalent to 345HP/403Ft-lbs on a DynoJet. |

Yes catted midpipes
I would however organize steel cats (dont know how to call them in english) so you dont burn them out without pre-catted dps |
