Go to an auto parts store (like Autozone) and pick up a pack of the plugs. They even have a multipack. I was able to find a nice small plug. THen you have to prep it, spray on some primer/plastic adhesive, and a few coats of color. I went overboard, but I did about 7 coats of the metallic blue (did not have the real color, but it was dead-on match) and then 3 coats of clear coat. I also clipped the plug pin by half (about 1 cm length). Looks like a dream.

Yeah, sure. They are the DORMAN Panel Retainers Assortment, part 963-075. You can see the package insert on the second page:

http://www.dormanproducts.com/catalo...e_pg_23_27.pdf

I used the one with the smallest head, sanded it down, cleaned, primed, and so on....

bumper plugs

I'm glad I live in Nevada. If your car does'nt come with holes in your bumper then you don need a front license plate. Thankfully my BMW did not come with them. But my Wife's Mini did. So I countersunk the holes enough for a sheetmetal screw to fit slightly over flush, I then filed down the slots some to make the screw flush with the bumper (I didn't file down the slots entirely because I might need to take them off at some point). I then used touch up paint to paint the screw heads and it came out awesome. you have to look really hard to see that there is anything at all.

Or is it 'speciality fastener for drawers'? I don't think we are looking for a drawer, but rather a fastener.

The best place to find the Dorman 963-075 plugs is Autzone. I looked all over Lowes and Home Depot but I came up empty. 1 min in Autozone and I had them.

looking at this in 2017. Just got my used 09 328i with 6 different holes behind the license plate and they don't even line up. I'm planning to move the plate to the tow hook, I guess I got some DIYing to do...LOL
