In-Dash screen vs. no screen - BMW 335is

So, I got to thinking today and I'm looking for opinions.

I purchased a new 2012 335IS and opted to NOT include the Premium package. I was completely unaware that not including this would eliminate the in-dash screen entirely. I figured if I didn't opt for navigation I'd still at least get a screen for TPMS, car health, etc. All brochure pictures, websites, etc. would always show the screen so silly me for thinking it would just be included.

Now that it was ordered and I took delivery of the car, I'm wondering how much this will affect resale value, but also wondering if I'm able to retrofit the screen. I've found some posts about a guy that will provide the kit so I believe it can be done but is it worth it?

I personally don't want the navigation but would be nice to use BMW Apps, and the iDrive for navigating music on my ipod/iphone.

Any advice/opinions? Maybe I'm just looking for reaffirmation that I'm an idiot for not doing MORE research regarding the in-dash features/console but honestly figured it would be included on a $50k+ vehicle.

Do the cic retrofit

Don't be surprised if BMW doesn't include options that way cheaper cars already have.
As in the factory alarm is an option on bmws..... That sh!t cray

I'll just chime in to say that if you keep the car for at least five years, it may be to your advantage (in terms of resale value) to have no Nav/iDrive at all. Nobody who buys the car from you then will want to have the "old" iDrive. I've got an 06, and I'm kind of glad I don't have the iDrive. I don't miss it. But then again, I bought used.

Edited to add: this may be me rationalizing my lack of iDrive! ha ha ha

whereas when i bought my 05 plate 325i a month ago, I was very pleased it had navigation and the i-drive system with screen. It actually made it a better prospect for me. I shoved in a 2011 DVD into the system and its bang up to date. As useful as any of the modern systems (if not quite as fast or pretty).

When i get my next BMW (possibly an F10) i'll be looking for it to have the same kind of package (e.g. sports, leather, hifi, i-drive etc)

No navigation drops the resalve value quite a bit. When I was buying a car, the navigation was a requirement.

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm holding off for now. Not having the navi has been a bit annoying especially when on a date or something, but hasn't been a huge issue.

Maybe I'll look into it as a mod a year from now.

I didn't get nav and don't miss it. That's what smartphones are for. (Neither to be used actively while driving, of course.) Most days I'm driving where I already know where I am, anyway. I can pocket the $3000-odd and use it for mods or a trip.

Hogwash. You would never get the $2000 back in extra resale after a few years. And for every person like you who thinks nav is a "must" there is one like me who thinks it is stupid and won't have it. Why pay $2000 for something a <$200 standalone GPS does better? And I can use my TomTom in any of my cars, and friend's cars, and rental cars, took it to Europe with me, and...

Just don't use it in NYC or any metro area, because the minute you forget to take it off the windshield your window will get busted and your TomTom jacked.

Glad that I'm not the only one thinking this way! PS - I'll be by the shop soon for a baseline dyno run and then I'll be back for a procede dyno run.

I came from a modded WRX so I'm still getting used to the BMW but I'm already eager for more power.

BMW interior is bland enough, I needed the nav to update the look a little.. Most competitors have nicer interior, but lacks in the performance department..it's a give and take, like the other member said, you can use a gps, but it's kinda ghetto when the civic next to u has a nav and you are adjusting the suction cup on your gps..premium pkg is abt $3000? That's nothing over 60 months.. Just my opinion..

My phone updates on the fly, I sell BMW's used so its not from lack of how to use it. In fact thats how you sell that car with I drive is showing them how it works. I dont like the setup, interface, or the way it looks on the car. My opinion and from my choice of the car I bought I dont have it in my E92.

As for resale, it adds a marginal value, what it really adds is allowance for financing. When we look at trades your looking at a few hundred bucks in terms of return in the grand scheme.

I bought from the remaining 2011s in 2012. I had a choice of 2 6MT sedans in black. I chose the one without nav package because I really didnt think I would ever get back the $ invested on resale. I use my smartphone when I need it; makes me feel a bit better about that huge monthly bill.
