Help! Good price??
My wife and I are looking into a 2011 328Xi Sportswagon. The dealer has a white/black one with the following options: Convenience, Premium, Value and Steptronic.
MSRP is $44,300 The dealer is willing to let the car go for $42,500. Is that a good deal? Any help is greatly appreciated |

I ask the questions you're afraid to ask.

Edmunds (edmunds.com) will give you invoice costs - add to that the regional charges (advertising and floorplan - depends on area but usually in the $3-400 range) and subtract any incentives. That'll give you a ballpark figure of what the car costs the dealer. |

invoice
First figure out what the invoice price is and then add $500 for a very good deal. bmw sales are down as is with other german and japanese brands. I think most people will agree that the median sale today is $750 over invoice not including dealership fees MACO, dealership prep (negotiable) and tax title
FYI I got my car at invoice price, but the salesmen was laid off because he sold 5 other cars that month for invoice price also; he desperately wanted to to meet his quota so he would get a bonus.. good luck |

In my experience dealers are looking to make sales and are willing to give good deals. $500.00 over invoice is doable I think but try to get them to waive dealer prep and some of the unnecessary fees.

I ordered the same car (e91 xdrive) in August, but with slightly different options and got it for $700 over invoice. My options were 6MT, value, sport, premium, HK, and roof rails. I'm on the opposite coast so don't know how that changes pricing.
Sales were down in August for BMW and they dropped their finance interest rate for September...so as others have said, go to Edmunds, get your invoice info and negotiate from there. |

Yea, like others have said $500 over invoice is a good deal. The invoice of the car you listed is $40,825 + $500 = $41,325 So I would definitely try to get close to this number. Plus make sure they don't try to make up the difference with bogus dealer prep fees or marking up the acquisition fee, etc. Good Luck!
