LG Seeks Ban on BMW Sales in South Korea
 BIMMERPOST NEWSLG Seeks Ban on BMW Sales in South Korea Patent litigation seems to be all the rage these days among technology companies. Technology titans such as Apple, Google, and Samsung are all mired in patent litigation in efforts to block their competition from entering certain markets or selling certain products. Unfortunately, this has now extended to technology used in automobiles - in this case, BMW and Audi. You see, BMW and Audis make use of the German company Osram's LED lighting technology - technology which the LG Group, a South Korean company, alleges to infringe on its patents. Specifically, LG is claiming that Osram has infringed "on LG-owned patents such as LED chips and packaging technologies that are widely used in LED light bulbs and cars." LG is therefore seeking of a complete block of BMWs and Audis sales in South Korea. What will be interesting to see is whether LG attempts to block BMW sales in any other markets using the same legal theory. In fact, an LG spokesperson has stated that "although BMW and Audi are LG’s new targets, Osram is the company’s top priority. LG will expand the ongoing court battles in other countries." In the end however, as with most litigations of this type, the likely outcome is that the two companies will settle out of court by reaching a financial arrangement. Source: Koreatimes |

no offense, but I notice that there are so many Korean companies just copy others products and then sue the companies or even try to patent it. just... WTF??

Oh come on! It just about money... but if OSRAM is really infringing patents, LG is right. Now, banning sales of german cars is just a threat, as BMW and Audi would just install different headlights in cars exported to South Korea.
