Boot remote button, should it open the boot/trunk?
My boot button just seems to unlock the boot but doesnt make it fling open, is this correct? Seems a bit pointless..
If this isn't how it should be, how do I go about making it actually open the boot? Cheers, Gordon |

Yes it just opens it. The previous car I had which was a 5 series E60 opened the boot right up which was great!
Anyone know if there is a conversion forthe E90 to allow this?

I don't think it's completely pointless, but as it only operates when the car is unlocked it's not much better than just reaching under and pushing the unlock button. Yes you do it's the one on your key fob with a picture of a car with the boot open. |

Oh sorry, I'm getting confused with the one in my Z4. A little button above the bonnet release that opened the boot.
I'll try a useful comment now: If we swap out the gas strutts to something a bit more powerful, would we get the e60 "pop up" boot?

Right - see what you mean. The Z4 didn't have an external boot release mechanism tho.
Did the old 3 series (E46 ??) have a pop open boot lid?

One advantage I see with having the boot just unlatch and not pop open would be when it rains. You could push the button from your house door, run over, open the lid, toss whatever you need to put in there, and close it without hardly getting wet.

At least with the e90 the boot is not visibly open if it is accidently unlocked. BTW this reminds me of a major grumble about the e90. In the e46 the door open warning light illuminated when the vehicle was parked. In the damn e90 you actually have to start driving BEFORE it tells you the boot or a door is ajar. This is so annoying and the opposite of 'progress'. If I even get my hands on the BMW man who changed this I'd give him a right old slap. |

Our sales director has got a very early E60, and whilst he didn't have this happen he did find himself in the position of not being able to close the boot whilst at a trade show in Germany. After a few attempts by the engineers on hand to see what was going on (including putting the service manager in the boot to have a better look ) they 'phoned BMW emergency service on the UK number. They arranged for an english speaking local to call him back who then got an english speaking engineer out to fix the problem.

i keep meaning to ask a question about the e92 boot...
i'm forever in a situation where i drop someone off, and they go to get something out the boot, and the only way i can see for them to get in is for me to switch off the car... why on earth cant the boot be popped? is it a sefety measure incase someone tries to nick summat when you're at lights or something like that? just seems really inconvenient |
