I think this happens to most of us at least once. You never know where "the limit" is until you've gone past it.
A very long time ago, I drove a 1963 Corvair Spyder (turbo) around many 35 mph turns at 65 mph in the rain. The rear end was fishtailing and it was great fun. The last turn was a long sweeper, BUT I hit a bump half way through. The rear end went out and I lost it (old Corvairs were prone to this problem). I spun around once or twice, went over the center divider (a few feet of curb and lawn) and ended up facing oncoming traffic. Fortunately, no one was coming. I was very lucky because I got out of it with a bent rim. I could have killed someone or myself or my brother. I never lost control of a car again. |

Sorry about your dog - putting my 13.5 year old lab down in 2004 was one of the hardest days of my life. Cars get fixed - it's only money.

Might want to re-read your insurance fine print. If your insurance agency found this post, you might not qualify for coverage, since it was intentional. Insurance is there to cover accidents, not goofing around.

I did the same thing when i first got my car went into a corner on a sunny day at around 40mph hit the curb with my entire right side ended up replacing the entire rear suspension unit, the two right side wheels side skirts and many little stuff. Since i live in Canada and everything cost a lot here the repair costed me 8000 Cad but i got the insurance company to pay

You were probably going too fast, and had DSC off? Electronics can only do so much, but they can't defy the laws of physics. |

hmmm, well clearly you realize you were a dumbass for attempting this and you deserve what you got so i won't even go there. On the other hand, if you broke a control arm your wheel/tire would be leaning one way or the other and from the pic is looks straight. it really depends on how hard you hit the curb. good luck though, and please stop doing this...save yourself the hassle

What is the lesson learned? No more drifting near a curb or how would you drift differently? |

I have a story like this too...
Drifting around a parking lot.. last turn before i was gonna leave... hit the curb going 20-ish nearly straight sideways... $8000+ in repairs, all new right side suspension, two new rims (A lot more than curb rash, part of my rim was missing) and they had to replace my rack and pinion. Luckily my car limped back home and i called insurance saying it slid on some moist ground :P And i never drifted again. |

Possibly a bent control arm, cracked hub, and broken strut.

responsibility rules this day on the forum....much less drifting, from what it looks like, in the rain?!?!?!?!?!?!?
gl fixing it and hope that theres no underlying damage(rod, control arm, etc.)...weve all done plenty but i hope this at least begins to put certaint things into perspective for you...is it worth it? |
