Just installed JB3 1.1 pinout - a Noob can do it
I will admit I was a bit scared to tackle this after reading the install guide but I will have to say it was pretty easy once you understood what was going on.
After Dual Cone only test drive (Nice boost with just the cones alone): Make sure you get a small screwdriver (key to the whole deal) and an 8mm socket (i used the changeable screwdriver without the screwdriver piece): It took me about 2 hours for the whole change out of dual cones and piggyback. For a noob I will take that. The hardest part of the dual cones was getting the airbox out. Dual cones: The hardest part of the ECU piggyback pinout was figuring out how to get the connectors out of the plastic case with out breaking something. After you figure it out it was easy. I was using my thumb to slide it out at the end. Final wiring assembly of the JB3 1.1: I triple checked all my pin numbers and wire connections. I caught one mistake so do that before you re-cable the battery. I wanted to try it out so I got in and pushed the start button and it was dead. Turned out I hadn't pushed the key all the way in. Doh. Pushed the key in and perfect. It fired up fine. No dash codes other than the AWD warning which happens when you disconnect the battery. Results: Holy @#$#$!!! This JB3 1.1 piggy with the dual cones is a monster. It provides sledgehammer like acceleration now! I was redlining immediately and hitting 80 extremely quick. I wasn't expecting that level of difference. The whoosh from the cones is actually pretty cool. I know some folks don't like it but I kinda dig it. It takes two days to dial it in for both the cones and the piggy. Wow. I can't wait if this gets better. I also ordered the map switcher so I could run low boost at elevation. I wasn't sure where to run the switch since I didn't want to arouse suspicions with the dealer but I just hid it in a rubber mount. I ordered the switcher since I live at 5300'. Terry said it could run on high boost at altitude and it should adjust. I will let you know. One area I wasn't sure about was the 29.2 wiring. Since I hadn't been upgraded as of yet, I wasn't sure if I was to wire one wire (grey wire) required for 29.2+ cars. I sent an email to Terry and he told me to leave the wire off for now and then wire it if/when I get upgraded. He said to be careful that I may want to remove it if I think the dealer is going to perform a 29.2+ upgrade since you don't want to throw any flags if it not wired for 29.9+. I was waiting and waiting for Jim C's Shark Injector but it never came so I figured I would give the JB3 a shot and I will say I am very impressed with Terry's direct replies to my inquiries and overall with the experience of the install and product. It appears I have the mod bug now. Looking at KW3s, M-tech kit, on and on..

Very good write-up!
I am getting exactly the same setup as you (JB3 and BMS Dual Cones), so I'm very glad to hear that your car turned into a monster. That is exaclty what I'm expecting. EDIT: Thanks to your write-up I decided to go ahead and get the Pinout JB3 instead of the PnP. Last edited by ATSR; 10-02-2008 at 07:36 PM.. |

I've been considering the JB3 for a while and live in Colorado as well. What does Terry have to say about running it up in the mountains, especially when heading over the pass around 10,000 ft. Can you still run the high boost map

After the installation of the JB3, did you have to get on a dyno and do any setting, or just install JB3 and you are set? Noob question sorry.

The JB3 unit is exaclty the same so, of course, the performance will be the same as well. |

not sure about running high boost above 10,000 but running at high boost at 5300' no probs thus far and there is not other dyno/tweaks required. That is it.
Side note: I took it to a dealer yesterday for a rattling noise and they had to test drive it. They could tell there were some changes since they mentioned the fact the intake could 'void the warranty' due to the oil? true? I think when they see the BMS cones they put 2 and 2 together and determined there is a piggyback as well. He did ask about other mods but I didn't say anything. I don't think the dealer mechanics are that dumb but luckily they were cool about it. The rattle was a loose driveshaft?? not sure how the hell that happened. maybe too much power

I dont think they really have a leg to stand on. While they can see the obvious change, if they cant detect mods in the ECM, they wont be able to really provide anything. Now if the trans fails or something, hes still could have some difficulty.

Gratz man. I recently got the JB3 pin out and it was a breeze to install.
Was a bit scared at first but after looking at the isntallation video over and over it couldnt be more than what was on the video. Pretty much ALL there is to it. Now go drive it like you stole it and enjoy the power. I take my lunch brakes in my car lately just because iw anna drive my car often. Power is so addicting. But after you get use to it, you want MORE and MORE power..
