Who did what for Comic Relief?

Working in a primary school, it's always a big deal for the kids. This year it was wear a silly hat and non-uniform and pay a fine. Some of the hats were fantastic creations!

It's a school in a very deprived area and money is tight to say the least. We have nearly 40% of families on free school meals and have been designated 28th poorest area in the country.

We have 466 pupils. My Head announced that if we raised over 1000 he would shave his moustache off in assembly.

The moustache went this afternoon! Needless to say the staff dug deep, but the response from the parents was amazing. So what did we all do?

Uniform for primary school kids Do most have one now?

Didn't do anything this year, sponsored a few people though!

We are doing a charity concert in June though not for comic relief, two of my pupils are playing, a local school orchestra, I'm doing the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, the piano teacher that lives just up the road is doing a couple of pieces, hoping to raise some money for a local hospice and raise the profile of classical music too.

Comic relief is ace at school though proper good laugh especially when all the "characters" and teachers get involved, so wish I was still at school today!

Yep! And it's a good thing. Gives the school a sense of identity, easy to see kids on trips and visits and it avoids all the arguments about what to wear, what is fashionable and trendy and who can afford the latest fashions. Sure you can still see the poorest kids due to their worn clothes...and smell them! But we look after them, provide secondhand uniform at knock down prices and keep things equal.

Our sweatshirt with logo - 6.50
Secondhand - 1.50-2
Polo shirts from ASDA 3 for 2
Grey trousers 4

etc. etc.

It makes a lot of sense for our parents!

True It's really good that you are taking into consideration the poorer kids, though I so wanted to be the fashion queen of primary, don't know what went downhill from there at the same time I know deep down there was A LOT of bullying that went on as well, kids are cruel especially to the poorer kids well was the case where I'm originally from.

Mind you, you were poor if mummy and daddy didn't have a large home with new cars on the drive, money for horse riding ballet, ballroom, modern dance and music lessons in two instruments I certainly wasn't one of the rich ones but they had easier pickings than me so I seemed to be friends with everyone.

So uniform looking back is a good thing for parents and kids, just not at the time when your Miss Princess-Porscha, disney princess and wannabe race driver extrordinaire, those where the days, I absolutely loved primary years

Our kids are rich if they have a Sky dish, two natural parents and a change of clothes every week!
