keeping time displayed with gas tank on reserve

Once the reserve light comes on, my Navi screen displays "25 miles to empty! or something that like. Normally it shows the time, which I like since I don't wear a watch. Problem is that it stays that way until I fill up my tank.

Is there anyway to change this so it only shows the usual info? I know this is a long shot, but figured I would ask anyway.

I don't think so, I'll need to check. It's also possible it displays it where I never see it due to the steering wheel obstructing my view.

Does pushing the little button directly on the side of the indicator stalk do anything?

Yes, that's what I have to do, but the display is difficult to read and I don't want to futz around with it while I'm driving. Would be much better if BMW didn't try to over engineer the problem.

honestly i'd rather have it telling me that i'm about to run out of gas then what time it is....it'd be far worse running out of gas on the side of the road than being say 10 minutes late for work.

Don't you think?

+if it does tell the time in the gauge cluster u should be fine

No, because I can easily see the idiot light telling me to fill up my tank prematurely and I can also read the gauge. I don't need a third reminder telling me my tank status, two is sufficient. I'll try to twiddle with the cluster.

At least if you have the non-iDrive, you can set up your radio display to tell the time.

Therefore, you get the miles-before-you're-walking indicator in the center driver's display, and the time-so-you-know-WHEN-you're-walking display on the radio.

The extra-moronic ingredient? If you'd gotten into a strong enough accident, he could not only kill himself, but YOU as well. His body would become a high-mass high-velocity projectile inside the cabin.

If you tap the stalk once it will show you on the Idrive and center cluster the time momentarily, then return to "hey you need gas soon or your HPFP will fry soon, and you willl be walking soon reminder"..

Just get gas before you reach that mark and you will never see it again.

Just fill your tank bro. Don't put unnecessary wear and tear on the fuel pump by running it to empty every time

Why not just solve the problem by filling the gas tank?

Because I like to live on the edge, why else!

Seriously, my gauge comes on prematurely. Last time I filled up both gauges said nearly bone dry, but I only filled up 15.4 g.

That's when you tell him to put it on or find another ride. I don't ever let people ride in my car without a seatbelt. I dont feel like having a friend die if there was an accident and know my whole life that I was driving. I've never understood what some people have against seatbelts.

Anyway, yeah, I find this annoying too. The light does come on a bit early and the only way you can see the time is to hit the button. Even worse, I've found TPM is extremely sensitive, and I guess I have one tire that's just the slightest bit low and sets it off when it's cold in the morning, but if I reset it after driving even a mile it's warmed up and expanded enough to turn off. I keep meaning to stop for air but I just haven't yet. It does the same thing, blocking the time with a warning.

Just look at the right side of the non i-drive radio, the time is right there.

I don't think 15.4 gallon is premature. Do you have a bigger tank than everyone else?

I don't think 15.4g fill up is premature, per se, but I think bone dry as measured by my gauge should be closer to 16.2g (IIRC from the OM), so that suggests that my tank is actually smaller...

Seriously, others have also commented that their tank reads zero, but they don't run out of gas. I prefer to know the accurate number w/o the BMW guardband. This reminds me of the same nonsense as the speedometer that invariably reads ~ 5mph higher than what my GPS measures so as to avoid liability.
