Yes I know, but they're not that bad. I had one after my last e46 and before the Z4 which was my last car before the e93. Does that make sense
Following on from that, BMW can't find a convertible anywhere to give me while mines off the road but they have said they are going to come back with a choice of cars tomorrow so we'll see what's on offer. They have also offered a number of compensation scenarios including a new car but I wouldn't get that until August. So it looks as though I've got a bit of thinking to do. Miopyk |

I went into the dealer tonight to see what's going on as I'm fed up with the 520d and want to change it. To my surprise I was told that the pump has arrived and they were going to fit it tonight. The bad news was quite interesting, it's not the pump which is holding everything up but a high pressure pipe connected to it.
In short when the pump fails it can increase pressure in the pipe which in turn can fail and is apparently even rarer than the pump. Anyway they're going to test mine to see if the pipe is OK and if it is I can have it back tomorrow, if not I'll still be waiting. At least I got rid of the 520d. I've now got a 320d Touring. Life is good Miopyk |

This really is quite worrying. - it seems like a serious issue. You should ask for a 650i Sport convertible

Anyone got any idea on what the failure rate is. I found myself driving 300 miles today worrying that the pump was going to fail.
I guess there have been what 20 on this forum, but I wonder what the forum represents for overall failure -200/300? Whats the prduction rate? Just trying to work out what the stats are likely to be. Alex

Praying that they have sorted them on the current production, although my fear will be that they haven't!!

No really sure Trigger - I expect that you have seen some of the US posts where they understood that BMW were using up Siemens inventory whilst they waited for Bosch to ramp up production. Have no real knowledge though.
What I do know is that you will LOVE you car - mine is great!!! Alex

Good News - The dealer called and my car is ready for collection. I have asked that another fuel pump be put on order (£800) so I have one on board when I drive to Italy next month.
Picking it up this afternoon and I can't wait. Miopyk |

Well, I've got my car back and I'm pleased about that. I'm less pleased that there is a deep scratch on my rear bumper which means it's now got to go back in for that to be fixed.
Anyway, I had a long chat with the parts manager about getting another pump on order and while he wasn't being specific he suggested that I might be being a bit hasty as they may be obsolete at some point in the near future. On the way home I decided to give it a bit of a run and it feels pretty much back to normal. I just hope that everyone else gets their pumps sorted as quickly as me. Good Luck Miopyk |

Why?? You have a 3 year parts warranty - put the money into a bank and get the interest over the next three years. If it needs replacing and BMW only offer part payment just use the £800+interest.

Having said that the theory behind buying one was that if the fuel pump goes while I'm there they won't be able to fix it because they won't get the parts. That means either the car stays there till it's fixed or it gets repatriated. Either way its a pain in the ar5e for me so I'd rather spend the £800 and have them fix it there and then. I would have then claimed the cost of the pump back from BMW GB. Miopyk |
