I jut passed 77k on my 2006 325i. What things should I be looking for as far as DIY preventative maintenance? So for I am looking at these items:

• Transmission filter replacement
• Transmission fluid flush/fill
• Rear Diff. flush/fill

Any other items? Plugs? Coil packs? As always thanks in advance for the help.

Water pump and coolant around 100k, check serpentine belt and idler and tension pulley, may have valve cover and oil filter leaks, check struts and shocks.

I would also say plugs. I waited around 90k. Old ones looked ok but the car felt much better with the new ones. Also brake flush and check steering fluid. Since you are going to diy, your cost is the fluid/oil plus some tools maybe. Nothing compared to dealer or indy, plus definitely worth it if you plan on keeping the car.

I changed plugs on my 06 330i few weeks ago at 69k. Feels alot better. Also did a coolant flush hoping it would extend water pump and t-stat more. Also changed rear pads and rotors. Pads need replacing but I did rotors too cause I had an annoying squeezing sound that is gone now. Oh yeah and I changed a leaking oil filter housing gasket. Gunna have to replace valve cover gasket soon but I should be good for about 6-12 months. You could also do tranny fluid, check hoses and belts, lube hinges maybe and and sunroof track. Good luck. There's plenty little things you can do to maintain your ride.

Differential fluids should also be on that list that Cisco posted. But yeah, check the POS oil gasket. That's becoming as common to break as the loveable water pump/thermostat combo. Also, a wheel alignment would not hurt if you have not done so for a while. Should only cost you around $100.

I would of done it at 50k, but I got the car with 64k already on it.

I do plan on doing plugs. At this point here is my list:

• Oil Change/Filter

• Spark Plugs
• Cabin Air Filter

As for the transmission filter/fluid I am going to wait until next Spring since I will be close to 100k at that point. Funds are tight and I need to try and break this down into manageable pieces.

UPDATE: So I got most of my items completed as well as the water pump ans stat, though that was unplanned. The water pump failed on the way to work and took it to the dealer. Cost $1200.

So to this point here is the list of items I have completed:

• Water pump and thermostat
• New plugs
• New serp. belt
• Transmission filter/fluid
• Engine oil/filter
• New cabin air filter
• Rear diff. fluid

So now that I have all of that complete, are their any items I should add? I am almost at 80k now.

I would say you are good for a while with just oil changes and anything that may come up. Another easy thing and recommended is to remove the vanos solenoids, clean them with MAF cleaner, blow them clear with compressed air and then swap them (intake to exaust, and visa versa).

The guy was putting in new ones, but the work is the same. Only thing you need to remove is the intake snorkle, the engine cover can stay on.
