Dealership Oil Change???
My E90 335i is due for an oil change. Given this is the first oil change since I bought the car 2007 CPO with 40k miles, I am thinking it would be beneficial to have them do the service.
Does anyone have an opinion? How much does it cost (assuming a lot)? Is it easy to have another shop do the service and then somehow code that the service was performed through the iDrive system? Thanks for any help/suggestions. |

What is a "scope reset" for $75? I just got my 2008 335i last week and I am starting to research the correct oil type, filters, and a "code reader" for it... Looks like Burgertuning.com sells a Bavarian Technic cable (use with laptop) that will reset codes and the service light for only $150 with the purchase of a "tuner" (considering only a JB+ rather than the JB4 as California gas sucks...). |

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

I would add that you can save $$$ going to a plain vanilla shop for a change. For me, it saves me $ and is much more convenient than driving a considerable distance to the dealer.
If you consider a non-dealer, I found that I had to make it unambiguously clear about what was acceptable oil, that is, LL01, or basically Mobil 1 0-40 or BMW oil. A non-dealer, non-bmw specialist may try to convince you that any full synthetic will do; I had to insist. |

Dealer's oil sucks. BMW LL-01 is nothing compare to mobile 1. If the area you live in goes below 0C use 0-w40. If it never goes below 10C and if you want more protection, you may use 5-w50 (what I am using now but it will produce less hp). You don't have to always follow the LL-01 cert. Just my 2 cents.
I think I am going to try 10-w60 in next service.
