Sunroof Smell?!

Strange as this may sound, but I get a nasty smell when I open my sunroof! - Its only when I perk the roof up (not open full).. Its nothing to do with the AirCon/Vents.. Ive tested this for some time, and have came to the conclusion either im going mad or the sun roof smells..lol

Ive tried halfords air con cleanner and still no joy, any ideas what this could be?.. ive read online (google search) that possibly something to do with the headliner?? - anyone had this before?

car is 100% when the roof is closed or even open full. Not a nice odor at all when you have passangers

Is there some dirt and gunge in around the sunroof aperture, that bit never gets washed and maybe just needs a good clean, also around the edges of the aperture and the sunroof itself.

Have a look to see if one of the roof drains is blocked - if it is gunged up, the smell could be coming from there. Locate the drains then carefully pour water down them to check for blockage (mind your feet - they may get wet!)

I was thinking it may be a blocked drain, although there is no leak - Blocked drain usually means the water would have to go somewhere?..

I couldnt see any drains etc when the sunroof is open Mike, should it be visible when the roof is open??

Thanks

You should see the drains - I haven't got a sunroof so I can't tell you where, but have a look in the front corners, that is the usual place, with the drain pipe routed down the A-pillar - hence the comment about wet feet - you pour the water in the top, and as you are standing close to the car, it comes out just where you tend to stand. If one is blocked, the other will probably be free enough to take the water away.
