Raced a m6.......Procede 335i it good at high altitudes.
The race was at about 4300 feet bTW. From a dig to about 125mph. I beat it by 1-2 car lengths. I stopped at redline in fourth. I'm assuming he would have been pulling ahead had it continued another gear. He was surprised, I wasn't really. He's got to be losing at least 50hp at that elevation.
I talked to him after and explained his power loss at elevation.......he was a bit bummed I could tell. It was a pretty cabrio light green color. Nice rims too. Oh. I have procede BTW. Nothing else. |

This shows more proof about the German Invasion runs at LACR where the DA was 6300' that day, supercharged and NA cars ran embaressing times, as did many TC'd cars.
I'm not suprised, even at sea level the procede 335I to 100 can hang with the best of them, nice job.

Well, first of all it's the effect of the forced induction, which is not so sensitive to altitudes. Even if the Procede has given it that litle extra juice...

4th gear isnt giving the m6 any room to stretch its legs. 4th gear in a 335 will come up quick.
Try racing it from 4th gear on. It would be a different story. Maybe he didn't have the Power button on? |

Sea level air pressure = 14.7 PSI. Air pressure 4,300 ft above sea level = 12.5 PSI. 12.5/14.7= 0.8503 -1 = -14.96% Which is 75 HP on a car with 500 HP. What part of this does not make sense to you?

Nothing surprising about this. Just look at the German Invasion posted times. A 500HP SL55 AMG, and 507HP CLS63AMG, can beat, or give a M6 Conv a good run....and they could barely run the ETs I was getting in my stock 335i Steptronic Sedan. (around 13.4 secs) A CLS63 should run about 112+ in the qtr mile, but only ran about 106mph at LACR.

Exactly, I've run enough cars at altitude and know the effects they have on NA motors.
The CLS 63 AMG trapped at just over 107 at LACR the other day. Stock 335i's were running 100-102 PROcede/AA Xede cars 104-105 I think a CLS 63 AMG will outrun the M6 Convertible by a touch too. I remember a test in Motor Trend several years ago when they tested several wagons and ran several of them up to 10,000 elevation mark. One of the wagons was the BMW 540i One was a Volvo V40 1.9T The BMW had 282 hp V8 (had a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds) The Volvo had 170 hp turbocharged 1.9 liter I-4. (0-60 time of 7.9 secs) But they noted at 10,000 feet in elevation they "raced" the two several times and the Volvo would run side by side with the BMW at that elevation. I remember outrunning a couple more powerful cars with my GTI 1.8T back in 2000 when I was at the Grand Canyon and surrounding areas with an elevation of 7-8000 feet. It was fun. |

I raced two One from a dig a blue M6 vert with 22" chrome rims and he lost and then he just turned as if he really didn't try...then just a few mins ago on the freeway about 4-5 times in a row he barely kept up with me all the way to top speed limiter then he just slowed down and acted like he was just cruising. So they're ego's were damaged a little and then a M coupe tried to join in but he wasn't able to react fast enough to get any meaningfull results.Oh well I know the next post will say some dumb shit like "maybe they were fake M6's blah blah blah or from 1986." Anyway to the OP u got props.People have to remember that car has serious weight problems.
