Mine is a 12/06 build, the recall is for 3/07 and on.
And they did not know this?

Anyone have their radar detector hardwired into the fuse box?

Did you take it in without removing it? did the dealership say anything about it?

BMW Battery Cable

At the BMW dealer in upstate NY today, and they are doing the work today, so I suspect dealers are starting this process nationally.

No they don't. They are simply splicing on a new connector at the end of the cable where it goes into the junction box. The pre-recall repair involved replacing the entire cable which required interior removal.

Not even the battery, just the connection at the junction box.

I had this work done just the other day when i came in for other service

Heres the pic. Says repair battery cable. Now i have to go back at check to make sure they put everything back correctly especially if they ripped the seat and carpet out.

As you will notice the bulletin number is not 61 08 11 but 61 08 13. I dont know if that is because im in Canada.

EDIT: Now that i look at it there is no mention of touching the fuse box, just the battery connection. Hmm?

For one, BMW batteries do not die in 2 years, so no thanks. I'll wait for the recall and have the wife drop it off to have it fixed, I'm sure that'll fix the issue or they can replace the battery as well while they are at it.
It's possible if it was discharged very low for long periods of time.

In their defense, those do sound like issues resulting from a weak battery but they should be able to just test the battery and know for sure

B61 08 11 is the old bulletin that called for complete cable replacement - pre-recall. B61 02 13 is the new updated bulletin for the new cable repair. I don't know what 61 08 13 is - maybe a Canadian specific bulletin...

Does anyone know how BMW came up with the date ranges? I have a February 2007 build 3 series coupe (so it falls one month outside of the March 2007 date range), but twice in the past four months have had my car shut off while driving. Seems like the battery cable is the likely culprit, but I'm not sure if BMW changed the way it does its battery cable in BMW 3 series coupes between February and March 2007. If anyone has an answer, I'd very much appreciate it.

Try to call BMW NA and explain, may be they will grant the good will warranty since its only a month out.

Different part number as of March 2007.

My dealer here in PA just scheduled my 09 328ix in for the recall next Tuesday 3/12 - stated it would take 3hrs or more so gave me a loaner for the day

They just got in the req'd parts the other day so i'm among 1st in my area to get this done

So what's the verdict: Are they replacing the whole cable from the battery to the fust box, or just the terminals at the battery and/or fuse box?

I need to know before bringing it in because I have wiring for my radar detector that needs to be moved or disassembled depending on where they need to work.

I asked exactly what they would be doing when my appt was made - SA had no idea about specifics on my E92 - stated there were a few different models involved in the recall & wasn't sure what needed done on each...

I find it hard to believe that it would take 3+ hrs (as was quoted for my E92) to replace some battery terminals

At any rate - I will know what they did on E92 come end of day this Tuesday (3/12)

The problem is at the fuse/relay box in the dash, NOT at the battery. It is the main B+ cable for power distribution. The problem is the connection/interface of the cable and the box. The kick panels(2), glove box, drink holders and some of the carpeting needs to be moved to have enough room to work. To get the cable end connector prior to the "recall" you had to purchase the entire cable, some chose to just splice the new end on. I opted for entire replacement and improved the strain relief at the fuse box end of the cable.

What I would like to know is the connection style(spade) the same or revised....

cheers
jz
