The 350z shares the same platform as the G35, aka the "Nissan FM platform". FM stands for "front midships", or "Front Mid-engine" which describes the location of the engine on the car. If you want to learn more about this platform you can read up on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_FM_platform

All of this is besides the fact that the 350z just looks like a damn G35. I'm sure you are aware that the G35 comes as a coupe as well.

that explains the G35 and 350Z platform...
in regards to the M35 platforms, i dont see any nissan Fuga's driving around...do you?

The Infiniti M is also on the FM platform, Fuga is just the model name in Japan.

Yes, it does matter if the car is RWD or FWD. Everything changes. Have to make room for the differentials, etc. Make the engine bay fit the engine/trans horizontally or vertically. I don't know of any manufacture that spends the money to make a platform RWD and FWD capable. The IS and the Corolla have nothing in common platform wise.

nyc328, no one is bsing you man. all infinitis in production right now use the FM (front midship) platform. the engines are longitudinally mounted with transmission in the middle powering the rear wheels. its simply impossible for the same platform to be used as a FWD chassis. the 350z shares this platform. none of these cars came first. hence, theres no such thing as "FX is based off the 350z." the platform is designed well in advance of the actual car.

the only correct statement you made was camry=ES. but even then, the only thing shared is the platform. the GS platform has no toyota equivalent (in the US). the IS is simply a shortened GS platform.

hopefully you learned something?

Huh? All I stressed in that post is that it does matter if a platform is RWD or FWD.

Actually, you're completely wrong. It's a worldwide marketing campaign that began in the 70s in the US, but they use some offshoot of it internationially as well. In fact, the main slogan in many parts of the world translates to "Joy of Driving." And more often than being used as taxis, they are police vehicles.
