When Did Your Water Pump Fail?

I've noticed a trend on Water Pump Failures and it seems like they happen on average of 50-70k miles and when it happens their are not warning signs. I sure their are 100,000+ 335i's roaming the streets in the USA and alot more across the world. I figured we probably only see posts about people's failures instead of people posting, "I'm at 80k on my oem water pump" ect...

I'm doing a poll to try and get some basic data together for in hopes to see if their is a trend with years, mileage ect...

PS you can add a real poll to your first post so people can vote.

I bet the majority are in the 70-85K range. 50K would be a bit premature but definitely possible.

Mine was running strong at 68k miles. But I proactively switched it out. I think a big factor is the temps of where you live and how much stop and go traffic you experience. Freeway cruising puts a lot less stress than stop and go traffic in hot places.

I had a 07 E90 that I owned from mile 1. Drove it to 93k miles and had no issues with the water pump.

Thats very true, Another factor could be the coolant. Maybe running more coolant than water would keep it protected longer? I know the average car runs 50/50 and more in colder climates, but in hotter climates people are able to run less 20/80 or even all water with super coolant. I wonder if going above 50/50 is better or maybe running more water is better 30/70 ect... (for hot places like CA,FL,HI)

Does anyone know if the water pump got revised at all through out the years 2007-2012?

I also noticed that the M3 has an upgraded Aluminum one, why did BMW leave us hanging on that one? Has anyone tried to see if they can fit that on our engine? Maybe a custom bracket to adapt around the wholes?

Wow this is promising. It makes me wonder what would cause some to last 100k and some to go at 50-60k. Strange... I'm hoping with this poll we will get enough votes to start to notice a pattern.

Mine started going out around 78K miles, luckily i noticed the fan running at all times and took it in before it left me stranded. Didn't throw any codes but they said it had a couple of shadow codes.

That was my thinking when I replaced mine. I knew if I got stranded on the weekend or late at night I would have wished I proactively swapped it. Once you're over 60k or so, I think it's really the role of the dice. Considering I will probably get rid of the car before 120k miles, I am ok with one waterpump during the 7+ years of ownership.

I don't think one 335/328 has made it out of our shop past 75k without needing a water pump.
